I live in La Paz, Baja California Sur and the dentists here are excellent, well educated, polite and most speak English. Prices for crowns and implants are at least 50% lower than the States and the work, at least with the dentists my wife and I use, is as good or better than north of here. I guess it depends on the dentist.

It’s true that it depends (greatly) on the dentist, but the dentist is also a part of the dental culture. The dental culture is influenced by a lot by the local professional schools, to a some extent by the local professional associations especially continuing ed (imo), but most importantly by the expectations of the local market.
