Of course he should called back! His explanations were utter BS, and this whole administration is complicit in this scandal. There has never been a scandal like this in the history of the united states. Obama, Clinton, Holder, etc. all knew they this operation was illegal from the beginning and they will have been very careful about leaving evidence around that would prove they were complicit.
