Prayers up for this man's family and for Josh Hamilton. I fear for how he will personally cope with this.

Since the former President was present, stand by for the MSM to “blame Bush” for this too

Just imagine how the player who tossed the ball must feel...

Hamilton is said to be “distraught”

I am sure a civil suit will follow. Against Hamilton, the Rangers, the city (Stadium owners) over who knows what.

“Family says stadium is unsafe, wants compensation and higher walls” or whatever

Prayers for the family. No more throwing baseballs to the fans anymore. *sigh*

I just saw video of the fan falling on Dallas' channel 11 (only saw the fan disappearing behind the wall)... fan looked relatively young (mid to late 20s)... reached to his left over the railing and lost his balance.

I've sat near that section... it is at least a 20' drop. He must have fallen on his head.

Prayers up. This is not the first time I've seen this headline in my umpty-decade years in DFW. It happens. Hate to see it again.

I’m confused. I followed the link and under “related stories” it says the guy was moved out of intensive care and is said to be stable. I checked the time postings so maybe the earlier reports of his death are incorrect? I pray that’s the case.

So much for MLB letting players toss balls into the stands. This is huge lawsuit city.

"Josh Hamilton tried to throw (the ball) up to the guy because they were yelling for the ball," Dunn said.

The man fell after reaching to get a ball that was tossed into the stands by Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton.

Throwing balls in such a manner is commonplace. Don't beat yourself up, Josh. Praying for his welfare. He must feel terrible.

I was watching the game as it was televised here in the Bay Area and I saw the guy fall. They did have a camera in the area where he fell and it looked like it was 20-25’ drop into an area that looked like a walkway of sorts.

Such a tragedy and all for a $7-8 baseball.

Prayers to his family and all involved.

You know what’s sick? I saw this story on AOL News, and they had Facebook comments below it. There were of course good people leaving their condolences, but then their was a nasty comment by a jerk who said this was Darwin at his finest. The sad thing is, there were several that agreed with him. I guess it would be a different, pun intended, ball game if it was him that fell over and died or one of his loved ones. Then there were comments such as, “Well, at least he caught the ball.” Not funny. The announcer also had a nice little chuckle out of it, but I’m going to assume he didn’t realize the gravity of the situation.

I didn’t see this man doing anything reckless. He leaned for the ball, but he didn’t climb the railing or appear to dive for it. The rail didn’t even come up to his waist. When he leaned to catch it, he lost his balance and fell over into a gap. I’m not much of a baseball fan. I don’t know how other parks are made (maybe they are all made that way), but imo, the railing should be higher and the gap should be covered. A similar accident happened last year at the same stadium, but the guy was fortunate enough to live.

My heart breaks for his family, especially his little boy who helplessly saw his father fall to his death in front of him. Prayers offered.

This is tragic (certainly not a Darwin death as some are saying). I came close to having a similar experience at a Red Sox games years ago. I was sitting in a rooftop box when a foul ball came close. About three or four of us including myself were hanging over the railing to try and catch it. The guy next to me got his hand on the ball but it dropped to the grandstand below. At that moment, I realized how close I was to just tumbling off. If I had stretched out for the ball instead of the guy next to me, I could have lost my balance and gone over the railing and as I weighed close to 300 pounds at the time, I probably would have taken out a couple people down below. Not a smart move but when that potential souvenir is coming at you, all your focus is on that ball and you temporarily forget about the danger you are in.

Another time when I was young, we were playing frisbee in a park and as I was chasing down the frisbee, I ran straight into a picnic table. That was about the most intense pain I ever felt and I was sore for days afterwards. I was so focused on that frisbee that I had absolutely no idea that I was about to smash into a picnic table.

As for litigation, I don't think the family of the victim is going to have much recourse. Printed on the reverse side of every MLB ticket is a disclaimer that the ticket holder assumes all risk for batted and thrown balls that enter the stands. Still, I bet you there is an MLB memo going around to all the teams, telling their players and employees not to throw balls into the stadium ever again.

Reminder to Rangers fans...gravity will mess you up even worse than Nolan Ryan messed up Robin Ventura. Don’t try it.
