On a 'series' note, the sad part of all this to me is that this Tevatron and Fermilab (Batavia, IL) is going to be shut down all because of the HCL at CERN and the Tevatron now being 'obsolete'.

So exsqueeze me but this kind of proves to me anyway, that beside the 'all powerful' HCL, meaningful science can still be accomplished at Fermilab and closing it is a big mistake.

(full disclosure: I live pretty near Fermilab and visiting it is a nice learning experience for youngsters. Plus, riding around the grounds you can see the Bison roaming in the fields. That's pretty cool too)

In the 1980’s, under RWR a large Super Conducting Super Collider began construction just south of Dallas. It was to have a “track” over 54 miles in circumference and a first class facility. After over 2 billion dollars had been spent and about 14 miles of tunnel and several large buildings were completed the Democrats cancelled the project. It nows lies abandoned and desolate. People whose land had been in their families for hundreds of years were moved off the site amid great protest. All for naught.
