“Just a somewhat off-topic observation, but has anyone else noticed how some of these prosecutors could speak so eloquently without a teleprompter in sight?”
I was thinking about that yesterday when Baez was doing his closing. I was amazed how he was bringing up all this info without any notes or anything. I’m also amazed and envious that these people can speak confidently when they know millions are watching. I say envious because in a month, I, as the father of the bride, have to get up in front of a couple of hundred people and speak without looking like an idiot. I’m an electrician, not a public speaker. I’m stressin’ but trying not to.
I’ll bet you’ll do fine. You’ll be talking about your daughter, a subject you know well.
I really had a lot of admiration for how well these people did during the closing (whether I agreed with them or not). With only a few notes and no teleprompter—and yet everyone in the media continues to claim Obama is a “great orator.” He’s not even that great WITH a teleprompter.
Picture everyone naked and you will be fine. Look to the back of the room or just at your daughter when speaking. Good luck. It really isn’t that hard to do.
Public speaking is hard for many folks. Keep this in mind - everyone there is a friend or family member. You aren’t talking to a group of angry folks, or people who don’t like you or your daughter. No one will care if you cry or say something silly or heart warming - they are there to celebrate with you and your family. Pretend like you are talking to your daughter, because truly, you are.
