I think you've hit the nail on the head. In fact, I think I've heard elsewhere that Casey was totally jealous of the attention Caylee got.

yep, very good analysis, caww!

I suspected Casey would have a bit of jealousy for her Cindy basically showing her up in her attention to Caley......but was surprised the high degree of jealousy she directed toward her own daughter.

Jealousy within an individual can fester only for so long before it manifests itself. I do believe Casey “snuffed” out her daughter in order to regain the attention of the family and that of her boyfriends, which didn’t seem too keen on little Casey being part of the package.

No matter how the picture is painted....getting Caley out of it would solve all her problems in her thinking. She made her decision and carried it out. Complete with oodles of backup stories to carry the day.

Course none of it’s going to work to free her....but she may even have anticipated that.. and content to pay the price of a jail sentence...again believing in the long run she’ll do alright once the dust settles and she’s out.

Trouble is that may very well happen..... Prayerfully God will step into the jury room and impact the hearts and minds there.......and Justice will be done.

Adding this to the "Damn, This Family is Dysfunctional" discussion. :)

I have long said "bad seed" is too simple. Like all dysfunctional families, everyone has a role. Casey did not happen in a vacuum as evidenced by this snippet. Interviewed by detectives, Lee is describing what Cindy did when she opened Casey's wallet the night of the 911 calls.

=============================
LEE:
Uhm, she [Police Officer] did leave and come back inside, just her again. And when my mother at that point had opened up my sister's wallet, she had actually already opened up my sister's wallet because she was looking through the contents of this large wallet, saw unfolded, it had to be a minimum of a hundred and forty, maybe as much as two hundred dollars just from seeing the number of bills, straight twenty dollars bills that were taken out. And the reason why I know the officer wasn't in there is because my mom grabbed the money and goes, and, and put it in her pocket. And no one else was in there.

Detective:
She's just stealing her money back from the girl that stole it.

Lee:
Exactly (laughs). Exactly. And I think they even uh, made a comment to that extent.

[snip]
Detective:
She looked like it's probably mine anyway.

Lee:
Exactly.

=====================
Lee then goes on to describe Cindy's anger upon finding her JC Penny card. File under "Pot Meet Kettle"
