"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Went to AU from 1956-60. Was on the station for sports . Glad to see it still going though as an NPR attachment, one hopes that there is some Center-Right info and commentary. Went to my 50th AU reunion last OCT. Loved it.

Hi. Is it Kevin?

It’s a disappointing lineup IMO. No Fourth shows? WTH?

That’s close, Vision. He’s Keith. We’re here, but I have to run up to the radio station and record one of the other jocks who’s on location. I’ll be gone about half an hour or so during Dragnet and Gunsmoke (darnit!).

It looks like there’s only one Independence Day show. I figured Mr. Walker would re-run an all-patriotic lineup. I guess not.

At least we have Dragnet. I wish we could listen through one of my old tubies instead of the internet.

Hi Gina, happy Fourth!

Looks like I wasn’t paying attention, “You Are There” has a holiday program.

Tonight's scheduled line-up of shows is what Ed played last year, July 4, 2010.

Just got back from a viewing of "Some Like It Hot" which was followed by a Q&A session and movie trivia with one of Tony Curtis' daughters, Alex, from his second marriage (to Christine Kaufmann).

Cool. Tony Curtis said he was doing cary grant when playing the rich guy on the beach...which is obvious.

Marylin Monroe was supposed to have been difficult on the set, but she does come off well.

Marilyn was apparently very difficult on the set according to Alex. Tony and Jack Lemmon were told the first day by Billy Wilder that they better be right-on in every scene with Marilyn because when she finally does a scene right that will be the one he prints.

One simple scene where she enters the hotel room and asks "Where's the bourbon?" required 81 takes. Marilyn often wouldn't emerge from her tailer until 3 in the afternoon when first call had been 9 AM.

The American Film Institute rated "Some Like It Hot" the #1 comedy of all time. I like the movie well enough, personally, but just not that high.

Wilder let Cary Grant screen Tony's accent before the movie had general release. He is reported to have said good-naturedly, "No one talks like that."

The AFI are weirdos.

Huh. Never heard that. In fact there is an interview with Tony where he seems to secretly admit he was ripping Grant off.
