INDEED.
I was a bit partial to Roy Rogers.
I understand Gene Autry was quite a real estate mogul.
Hmm. Ohio.
But I see some others have already gotten it.
I am a fanatic for music from the swing era, even though that was quite before my time.
I loved the old Roy and Dale movies....brings back memories of the 25 cent Saturday matinees.....nickel for a Coke and a dime for popcorn. Those were the days. Yep, I’m old.
I have a cousin named Roy Rogers, who just happens to be the younger brother of Kenny Rogers, yes THE Kenny Rogers, of country/western music fame. His elder brother, Billy Rogers, just entered a Hospice in Dallas. He has always been my favorite of my Rogers cousins. If you are so inclined, please hold him in your prayers. He is a wonderful Christian man with a beautiful family.
Sorry to add a downer on this thread. Just so very worried about Billy.
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans adopted quite a number of children. They were very good Christians.
Gene Autry also owned the Los Angeles Angeles baseball team...I think.
Indeed, "Dont fence me in" is top notch poetry.
Thanks for posting it!
PS: Far more edifying than the crap (to be kind) Bongo was listening to at the White House a couple of weeks ago.

That’s a nice story. I got a Coon skin cap in the mail from Fess Parker - Daniel Boone. I’d wear it to bed.
At the Hindenburg Barracks in Bad Kreuznach, West Germany, during the early 1960’s, the Army presented Saturday morning matinees for us overseas brats. The program would begin with a serial such as “Radar Men from the Moon” or “Panther Girl of the Kongo,” which would be followed by a regular feature, often a Roy Rogers film such as “Hands Across the Border” or “Under California Stars.” We were probably the last young Americans to experience real Saturday matinees.
Yes. Roy and Dale were authentic Christians.
I also got the coon skin hat w tail.
Probably one of 1 or 2 things I ordered off a cereal box or whatever it was.
LOL.
My favorite Kenny Rogers song is For You Alone (1958), a smooth "doo-wop" flavored standard--and a far, far cry from his acid-rock opus I Just Dropped in (1968), which, in turn, was far removed from his country/western tunes of later years.
If you were a Democrat, you could have worn it to a rally for White House hopeful Sen. Estes Kefauver (D-Tenn.) in 1956.
When I was a kid we ALL had one.
Wore it to school!
"Davy, Davy Crockett... king of the wild frontier"
Yep, things have changed. :)

Lifelong GOP or Independent here.
My favorite movie cowboy was Wild Bill Elliott.
In The Ballad of Pancho López, sung to the tune of Fess Parker's Davy Crockett ballad, Chihuahua native Lalo Guerrero tells the story of a Mexican peasant who left his socialist homeland to became a successful restaurateur. It was a local hit in Los Angeles in 1955.
Yes, Kenny kind of lost his way in the past few years. I also like his early songs best.
His mother, Mama Cille, (her name was Lucille) was quite a character. That woman loved to fish.
Here are more than a few free, public domain Roy Rogers movies that have been checked by the Internet Archive folks to make sure that there are no copyright issues. Enjoy!
And “Silver Spurs” is also at that site without the “Roy Rogers” keywords. Have fun.
Three or four years ago I was looking through the cheap DVD’s at Big Lot’s and found 5 out of 6 volumes of a collection of old cowboy movies, from Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Bob Steele, Lash laRue, Randolph Scott, John Wayne, Tex Ritter, you name it. I now have about 700 hours of old western movies on cd, all original, and I wouldn’t take anything for them. I’m still working my way through and have 100 or so hours that I haven’t looked at yet. Pancho, Cisco, and the Lone Ranger, and all the rest were role models for so many people. With them the good guys won, and there was no “nuance” to deal with when Roy Bean sent all those horse thieves to the gallows, ‘cause they were guilty and responsible for their own actions. Sometimes I’m sorry I had to grow up. (My wife says I’m not quite there yet).
Good bye, good luck, and may the good Lord take a likin to ya!
