>> “By the way, tax and spending cuts are what we need to turn the economy around and her positions are all about that.” <<

.
Then why did she back away from pushing spending cuts when Cantor told her to?

She has voted exactly how Cantor and Boehner have told her to, every time. Her votes match theirs in every way.

See post 129 about Bachmann.

Palin never had to worry about the GOP cold shoulder because she would merely break it off and beat them with it, that is what she does, and is famous for, and has been doing during her entire career.

When Palin sees Republican leadership playing games, she replaces them with her self, why do you think they are truly terrified of her?

That sitting president was hated by the public for pardoning the man that had destroyed the GOP and essentilly gave Vietnam to the commies after the war had been won, by yanking all logistical support from under the Vietnamese.Get out from under that cabbage.

So whats your point, Mr Expert? He actually did get renominated and lost the Presidency by only a couple points. Remember? ..

Did you forget your point, old man? Is Palin the new Reagan? Is that your point?

I am very interested to see Sarah Palin’s plans but I would not be surprised if she chooses not to run. She is more powerful than ever and I agree that she is conducting a magnificent campaign for restoring our country’s greatness. We will see. I don’t see Palin and Bachmann as mutually exclusive here. They are on much the same track. Given Sarah’s trial by fire, she is the stronger of the two by a good distance. I still find Bachmann very impressive.

You are taking this matter out of context. If it weren’t for the likes of Michelle Bachmann and my new congressman, Allen West, the Bush tax policy would have ended. As for spending, there is no backing down. On the contrary the conservatives are holding Cantor’s feet to the fire. This is why we have a game of chicken going on with the debt limit. I really don’t see the truth in your statement about Cantor telling her to back away from spending cuts and she complied.

Bachmann goes way back with Karl Rove and has made the Establishment GOP very happy as a prospective ‘stop Palin’ stalking horse. But she’s a bachbencher they’d be able to toss overboard in a minute, which also makes the Dems and the MSM very happy.

You’re deluded if you think she’s in any way helping Palin instead of Romney.

"I still find Bachmann very impressive."

Perhaps nothing more worrisome than a latent Œdipus complex. Comparing Bachmann and Palin is like comparing the crack in my driveway to the Grand Canyon. One deserves a little brief attention. The other demands justifiable awe, and always will.

Purely a matter of order of magnitude... negligible political entity versus nascent political explosion. Given that it's the 4th of July weekend, I'll take the explosion, please, and thank you.

I also remember the 1980 campaign very well - it was the first one I was able to participate (and vote) in. The summer of 1979 brings back very vivid memories for me. The long gas lines with the Knack's "My Sharona" all over the place on the radio. In the world of politics, the big question was "Will Reagan Run?"

As that summer dragged on, it became fairly conclusive that Reagan was not running. In fact, despite the state of the economy and the general "malaise" that was permeating American culture, it began to appear that Jimmy Carter was not going to have too much trouble getting elected. Besides, the knock on Reagan, as you pointed out, was that he was too old. The idea of a 70-year-old man assuming the presidency was preposterous to many. The general feeling was that Reagan's time had come and gone.

In early November of 1979, the infamous hostage situation in Iran began and would dominate the news for over a year. It was around that time, November 13th to be exact, that Reagan finally entered the race and the rest is history.

Now many people come here to yip-yip-yap about how 2011 is different from 1979. How it is not possible for a candidate, like Reagan, to wait until the fall to announce as it would be impossible to catch up to the other candidates in money, resources, etc.

Actually the opposite is true. Due to the massive reach and power of the Internet, which did not exist in 1979 (except as a military method of communication), and other media such as talk radio and the hundreds of TV stations, it is possible for a candidate to enter the race this fall immediate achieve parity with the other candidates - especially a candidate with the national recognition of a Sarah Palin.

Personally, I do not think Sarah Palin will wait that long to announce her intentions - I think we will know by Labor Day whether or not she is running. However, I need to point out that she has not missed the bus - not by a long shot.

In fact, due to the saturation of media, it is probably wise to remain on the sidelines as long as possible.

Some here say that Reagan started running for president for 1980 as soon as he left the convention floor in 1976. Well, the same can be said for Sarah Palin. We have been speculating (and obsessing) about a 2012 Palin run ever since she was announced as McCain's running mate in 2008 and Palin has done nothing but help feed the frenzy. She may not be formally announced yet but like Reagan 32 years ago, it is clear that she is running.

I totally disagree with you about Bachmann being more articulate and credible. Something about her raises a red flag in me. I’m just not excited about her at all, and she can’t hold a candle to Palin in any area.

“doesn’t know the difference between John Wayne and John Wayne Gacy”

Now that is out right stupid! The Gacy comparison was brought up by the demonic MSM. I never knew Gacy was born in Iowa and probably neither did MB. Is a sick ‘Sunday funnies joke, and for you to spout it is disingenuous.”

**************************************

Bachmann tried to gild the lilly by claiming John Wayne was born in Waterloo when he clearly was not. If that was her home town she was touting, she should have made sure she knew the particular celebrities who were born there IF SHE WAS GOING TO TOUT THEM. It was coincidental, and hilariously so, that it was JOHN WAYNE GACY who had the greatest connection to Waterloo including committing his first crimes there. It drew international howls of laughter.

If you can’t laugh at her being hoisted by her own petard this way, caught in her own puffery, then that is your problem. It is in no way disingenuous on my part to ridicule such a screw up. Her foot fault in Waterloo was, as you say, “out right stupid.”

But if you think for a second this phony poll surge of Bachmann’s is real, you are deluded. The objective here is to promote Romney and to try to block Palin.

Another spot-on analysis and another exelent article. Thank you. You and tecno are getting to be pretty good. Regarding the media puff, Bachmann would do well to remember what Sarah said in an open letter to the 2010 congress; When the media starts to say nice things about you, you should take that as a red flag.

She stuck her pointy finger up as she said it.

Display your pettiness much? What other type of finger is there? In over twelve years around this place, I've never seen anything like the pettiness and outright stupidity of this anti Bachmann mob that has sprung up.

She's' about as conservative as they come, Gomers. She's been doing heavy lifting under fierce fire from the left since long before there was a Tea Party. Because you happen to favor the unannounced, and unlikely candidate, Palin, and because your itty bitty mind seems to believe only one woman at a time is allowed or something, is no reason to trumpet your almost frightening, undying loyalty to a non-candidate; a loyalty that would likely creep Mrs. Palin out. Nobody wants to be adored and worshiped by disfunctionable oddballs
