Often times I fail to see His hand in those blessings, but then something happens and I'm brought to my knees in thankfuless.
The psalmist was fed up with the contempt of the proud (Ps. 123:4). Perhaps you are too. People in your neighborhood, office, or classroom may be scornful of your faith and determination to follow Jesus. Sticks and stones do break our bones, but words can wound more deeply. In his commentary on this psalm, Derek Kidner refers to contempt as cold steel.
We can fend off the jeers of the proud by becoming like them, or we can view their attempt to humiliate us as a badge of honor. We can rejoice that weve been counted worthy to suffer shame for [Jesus] name (Acts 5:41). Better to bear shame for a short time than to endure everlasting contempt (Dan. 12:2).
We must not be like the mockers by mocking them in turn, but bless those who persecute us. Bless and do not curse, Paul reminds us (Rom. 12:14). Then God may draw them to faith and repentance, and turn our moments of shame into eternal glory.
Finally, as the psalmist counsels us, we must look to the Lord our God (123:2). He understands as no other, for He too has endured reproach. He will show compassion to us according to His infinite mercy.
Read: Psalm 123
This is a stupid small 4 mm tear and hurts like the dickon’s all through the shoulder blade and down to the elbow. It felt better for a couple of weeks following the C4-7 nerve block but now is back to hurting. I’ve been using those large Hot Hand warmers in a double little sack I made for it...they get up to 140 degrees 18 hours of relief with out a cord...the new Tylenol stick to the skin things barely even get warm and are a pain in the rear to wear. Trouble is you can only get them during hunting season.
Stay hydrate ALL of you we will be in the high 90’s today in Memphis.
... except for the foundation. The foundation must be sound and built as upon a rock. We often ask the wrong question, instead of what can the church do for me?, the question ... what can I do for the church? ... is the one to maintain.
Pride is likely to rear its head and then we begin to find fault or dissatisfaction. Contribute to the church as much energy, joy, happiness, brotherly love, and loyalty as possible.
Thank you, Mayor, for today's devotion.
That was great!! Never heard of him before but I love that type of listening music! By the way, I am sure dating myself but I remember all the words to one of the songs you posted earlier.....Its Been A Long, Long Time. Yep, Im dated alright! LOL! As Popeye would say I Yam what I Yam. (I think it was Popeye!)*chuckle* I'd be dating myself likewise to say that the first time I ever heard a Les Paul guitar was in the hands of Mike Bloomfield, Eric Clapton (with John Mayall's group), and Peter Green (in the Mayall group---he replaced Eric Clapton, in fact---and then forming the original, blues-playing Fleetwood Mac) playing the blues. (The first time I got the blues in earnest was thanks to a man who didn't play a Les Paul but is still my major influence---B.B. King. I never would have tried to play a guitar seriously if not for him.)
I didn't catch onto Les Paul himself until shortly thereafter (I'm going back to 1968), when some television advert for a box set of vintage pop---usually the kind I can't stomach (with an extremely few exceptions to me it sounds about as real and soulful as a six-dollar bill)---showed a slightly psychedelicised silhouette of some pair of hands playing a Les Paul guitar over Les Paul and Mary Ford's "How High the Moon." The listing for the offerings on that set showed a couple of other Les Paul numbers with and without Mary Ford.
I played a hunch and, next time I was at my favourite record store (talk about dating ourselves, mentioning records for crying out loud!), I found an album collecting Les Paul's individual tracks, the instrumentals. He was light years beyond the slop passing as pop music in his day, he turned out to be quite a jazz player without being obstreperous or pretentious about it, and even more so he turned out to be a genuinely nice man who loved to know who was doing what on the guitar no matter what kind of music.
My only regret is that I never got to meet or see him play live in New York the last time I was back in my native city, about eleven years ago.
Welcome Back, LTOS, You were missed.
Hebrews 12:5-8
King James Version (KJV)
“...
5.And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6.For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7.If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8.But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
...”

CHASTENING IS A SIGN Of GOD'S LOVE AND TEACHING HIS CHILDREN ... NO MATTER HOW MUCH WE WANT TO AVOID IT.
sorry for the caps, ... seems like I continue to hit it accidentally.
Now I can see I was too liberal with my children. Simply did not know any better. That is the thing, God gives children to the young, and many of us have not lived long enough to have it figured out. My own Dad was harsh and I did not want to be like him. It takes time to learn about life and how to live it. I still am learning.
