To my surprise, I picked up a sheet of plywood and on top of the sheet (underneath) were (guessing) somewhere between 100-200 juvenile scorpions scattering in all directions. Happened in San Antonio, during the summer. Handled a rattle snake (took it home and skinned it) that was fatally squished by a drag box being pulled behind a small work tractor. Good thing too, because we were working in tall grass running a security fence around the same construction site. Lastly, climbed under a temporary fence to get to the roach coach at break-time (same job-site) and managed to put my hand and foot in a fire-ant nest. Good thing I wasn't allergic to same, as I experienced perhaps 500 bites all at about the same time. Felt like an electrical shock of some voltage/amperage. Texas... land of many living things hostile to man. Water mocassins, mosquitoes (I've got the scar to go with that one) tarantulas, alligators, and the list goes on... ;0)

You’re right about mosquitos. Have seen them come onto the beach in the east gulf area around Port Arthur about sundown - in a big black mass. One of my Texas friends said the only people who go to the beach down here at sundown are Yankees and those interested in witchcraft.
