Compared to Romney, Newt, Huntsman and the rest of JOKES running for President, governor Rick Perry is a rock star.
We need somebody who can WIN this thing. That means somebody with cross-over appeal, which our Palen, Bachmann and Cain (no matter how much we love them) simply do not have.

Until 1989, Rick Perry was a conservative Democrat. He switched parties as, like many Democrats including Ronald Reagan and Phil Gramm, he saw that party moving farther and farther to the left. Under Perry’s decade as governor, hundreds of Texas Democrats have followed his lead and become Republicans. As a former Democrat, Perry can speak to that swath of his former party that has become disenchanted with their party as President Obama has taken it even farther to the left, in a way that few Republicans can. He can also speak well and credibly to all wings of the national GOP, from the fiscal cons to the social cons to the libertarian set.
He would appeal to all segments of the Republican electorate and would come armed with a record of economic success and a commitment to liberty that no other contender can match.

Texas has been voted #1 business climate for the last seven years.
Texas has been getting all of California’s jobs.
Perry must be doing something right.
We need a good business guy right now.
Perry has proved it.

In what was described as a “God and country” sermon at the Cornerstone church in San Antonio, attended by Perry and other mostly Republican candidates, the Rev. John Hagee stated, “If you live your life and don’t confess your sins to God Almighty through the authority of Christ and His blood, I’m going to say this very plainly, you’re going straight to hell with a nonstop ticket.”
Perry was asked if he agreed with those comments and said, “It is my faith, and I’m a believer of that.”[39] Perry went on to say that there was nothing in the sermon that he took exception with.
Humorist and entertainer Kinky Friedman, the Jewish independent candidate for governor in the 2006 election, said, “He doesn’t think very differently from the Taliban, does he?” Carole Keeton Strayhorn disagreed with Perry’s comments, and Democrat Chris Bell said that one who is in public office should “respect people of all faiths and denominations”.
Conservatives then responded, arguing that Perry had a right to his religious beliefs, and that he was not disrespecting Americans of other religious convictions. While visiting Israel in August 2009, Perry gave an interview to the Jerusalem Post in which he affirmed his support for Israel from his religious background, “I’m a big believer that this country was given to the people of Israel a long time ago, by God, and that’s ordained.”

All (including Democrat opponents) have called him a staunch Conservative, and not one of the dozens issuing opinions has mentioned the vaccine or TTC.
Apparently they don’t consider these things an issue. They DID mention Perry threatening to secede from the unionas a strike against him.

How much are you getting paid to shill for Ricardo Perry, the illegal’s friend?

Can a Freeper back the candidate of their choice without being a paid shill? I support Perry over all candidates including Palin. He is by far the best candidate to beat Obama. He has governed the most successful state in the Union for 10 years. He has helped create half the jobs created during the Obama recession.

The question I would ask is how much are you getting paid to destroy your candidates most intimidating challenger. Do you work for Romney, Palin or Paul? I put Perry's record as a executive up against any candidate running. He crushes them all with only Pawlenty coming close.

You know what? I don't even care. What I care about is defeating Obama and I'll take the most conservative person I can get who is the most likely to get rid of this stinker of a president.

I'm disappointed in the recent failure of the sanctuary cities and the TSA anti-groping bills to pass in the special session of the legislature.

Perry caves in.

We need someone who will stand up to the establishment GOP, to Democrats, to special interests, etc. We need somebody who will stand up for what the majority of the American people want.

We need somebody who wants to fight hard to significantly reduce the overwhelming bureaucracy we face today.

To get the full appreciation for Rick Perry's numerous stances, you really ought to start at the beginning and start reading through the Governor's archives of speeches and coments. That gets you started, but they are listed at the very bottom of the page on the right.

There's good stuff in there. Like the fact that he thinks LULAC is a "distinguished organization" made up of "men and women who are committed to building a future of unlimited opportunity for every Texan", but I'm jumping a head of myself. Early on, he discusses his shared dream of open borders with Mexico along with healthcare for people on both sides of the border. Along the way, you'll learn that he's a huge fan of No Child Left Behind and you won't find any criticism of NCLB being another federal attempt to take power away from the states and local districts, nope! He's quite proud and brags that it is based on Texas' education.

There is so much in those archives, but a lot of it makes some of us sick reading it. You'd think he was running for President of the Border or something. His largest donor is a home builder and it shows.

If you want to jump ahead to June of 2011, you won't necessarily find this in the Governor's archives, but he maybe in a bit of hot water. A week and a half ago or so, a company with a falsified application for taxpayer dollars (or grants as the government likes to call them) turned out to not only have personal ties with Perry, but it turns out that the Governor's office was the one who vetted the falsified application. It just so happens that on that false application, of the three directors listed for Convergen LifeSciences, one is a Perry donor, and the two fake directors, well they are real people - one was a consultant to Perry's staff, the other was on a council tied to Perry's office. What happens with that remains to be seen, because the Speaker of the House and the Lt. Governor both signed off on it, and even after the falsification was revealed, all three are trying to defend it. Two of the three could be facing serious races (one a United States Senator, the other, Perry, President) and so they are probably going to fight this every step of the way.

Perry = Jorge Bush Lite.

Perry and Bush both liked to talk about "Guest Workers", or what the little folk like you and I call "illegal immigrants" or what they should be referred to, criminals bypassing our national security.

Why, Rick Perry even wrote a nice editorial about guest workers and how they should be allowed in the country, just not given citizenship:

Divisive language on the subject of border security and immigration reform is simply not constructive or useful in solving the problem. We cannot be a nation that is anti-immigrant because we are in fact a nation of immigrants. In fact, foreign-born citizens are some of the strongest supporters of tougher border security measures. Clearly, something has to be done because our hospitals, schools, and other service providers are being flooded with illegal immigrants at a great cost to taxpayers.

But to me neither amnesty nor mass deportation is the answer. The first unfairly rewards those who broke our laws, and the latter is not only unrealistic and unenforceable, but it would devastate our economy. That’s why I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status.

I would rather know who is crossing our border legally to work instead of not knowing who is crossing our border illegally to work. A guest worker program that provides foreign workers with an ID removes the incentive for millions of people to illegally enter our country. It also adds those workers to our tax base, generates revenue for needed social services and it can be done without providing citizenship.

Along with millions of Americans, I think it is wrong to reward those who broke our laws with citizenship ahead of those who have followed the law and are waiting to enter this country legally. And like millions of Americans I do not support amnesty.

With a more secure border and a reasonable guest worker program we can allow guest workers to help build our economy without offering citizenship. Many don’t even want to become citizens – they just want to provide for their families back home.

It just makes me feel all warm inside how Rick Perry tries to make you think that a guest worker program is not some kind of amnesty. He really cares about those folks.
