Boeing should just go ahead and extend the upper deck hump all the way to the tail fin. I suspect the laws of physics/aerodynamics say "The hump stops at the wing-root".

Doping! Oh man that brings back memories of when my friends and I restored an old Taylorcraft. Coat after coat after coat, a layer of silver coat, then sand off to smooth and repeat. The great thing about a rag wing (sticks and rags) is you can put some "100 knot duct tape" on it and keep flying. You can always repair later.

‘Who would have thought to put fries and cole slaw on a sandwich?’ It was comfort food for me, something that reminded me of home.”
You make it sound like your momma thought of fries and cole slaw on a sandwich.

The way I understand it...winglets to planes are like wingtips to shoes. Both serve the same porpoise. ;D

Not so. Major improvement in fuel efficiency and range with the addition of winglets. I will gather the facts.

final answer that I did not know:
The 747-8, the 787 and the A350 will have special, new kind of wings, which do not have a separate winglet, but have raked, and blended wingtips integrated - without a sharp angle between the wing and the winglet.
