I always thought William Shatner wasn’t a very good actor, that whole Star Trek crew was lucky to get their parts and even luckier to have the fan base grow. Luckily for us, Galaxy Quest came out as proper satire.

Gene Roddenberry was lucky nobody appropriated the ideas from Forbidden Planet before he did. It's weird though, considering that Star Trek wasn't successful until after it was cancelled.
