Number 5 on your list would be:

5. The publication, AAPG, The American Association for Petroleum Geologists, is a VERY reputable ACTUALLY peer reviewed professional magazine for the geology and geophysics areas of research and industry.

(I think, at least in time, he WILL be listened to! Every serious geology student subscribes to this magazine...many of them want to find OIL, and must have REAL DATA...so they won’t care about someone’s academic sacred cow!)

Likely so.

Thx.

Though, UNsurprisingly, the hostile naysayers on FR are still silent on his scholarly and extensive experience based assertions.

Nor am I expecting an apology or retraction.

After all . . . the 12th Commandment seems to be . . . once the resident kook, always the resident kook.

First, it is a hypothesis at this point, not even a theory. Second, where is the surface expression of the tectonic activity if this is an active zone? Go to the triple point off the Horn of Africa - and you have active rifting, extensive earthquakes, volcanism, mountains. None of that is present in Mid-America. What I think it could be is a relic zone that still moves from time to time. There used to be an active subduction and mountain-building zone off the East Coast and that is inactive now - so zones do go from periods of activity to inactivity.

And note what the geologist said about sea water possibly reaching into middle North America:

“Not much,” Reed conceded. “However, if you want waterfront property you should buy land around Indianapolis. In a couple of million years this acreage could be overlooking the Strait of America that separates western (and) eastern America!”

Not in our lifetimes or anything remotely close. Plus, the Africa rift system is much further along in development and the sea has still not spread into Africa.

So no apology is coming. All you posted is some scientific speculation as to the nature of the geological activity in the Mississippi Valley, and nothing to buttress the idiotic claim of needed to be concerned about a disaster that could flood the Gulf to Chicago.
