I highly recommend you buy and read “In the Gravest Extreme” by Massad F. Ayoob. He will answer most all of your questions.

if Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp had, had her weapon in Lubys...and had put down the miscreant after the first shot...she would not have been made an orphan and 23 or so people might have lived through it....

When intervening in the protection of another, there is always the possibility of misreading a situation.

Nothing but judgment can determine whether or not to act, but you do have the right to act.

The question of whether you SHOULD act is another matter.
It is your responsibility to get you and your loved ones to safety first

There is probably no better example of where a citizens arrest comes in.

You personally witnessed a felony, the most violent type. You don’t have a duty to act, like a police officer, but you would be well within your rights to arrest the shooter. And yes, shooting him would constitute a seizure, an arrest. You shot to stop any further aggressive action or to keep the shooter from leaving despite your warning to stop, if that is practical.

Armed citizens have to have these scenarios already played out prior to them happening. You MUST know what to do before, during and after a shooting and have a plan to implement.

How many folks posting here have actually exchanged fire I wonder or even been in a good fistfight as a man..not a kid

I would say you have a moral imperative to stop or detain our disarm anyone who has just murdered unless you have some special knowledge of the circumstance

Like you just witnesses Fred Goldman shoot OJ In the head for instance

I tend to get involved in helping if I can unless shielding my kids but it doesn’t always work out and I understand fear can freeze folks...its natural but I don’t think CCW is just to protect oneself

But I’m getting old...not the rough boy I once was
