This isn’t uncommon. Cats are more likely to be hurt in a short fall than a long one. In a short fall they may not be able to turn and land right. In a long fall, they instinctively right themselves and spread out like a skydiver, then position their legs to take the impact at the last moment. Truly one of God’s most amazing critters.

From what I’ve read, there is a 90% survival rate and less injury when the fall from a building is greater than seven stories.
