My son used Sony Vegas before he upgraded. Seemed happy with it.

Which version. The top version is nearly $600.

Vegas is excellent. But is a bit more than $100. They offer a similar product for a lot less.

My preference is Pinnacle Studio (currently using ver 14). If you don't need all the extra "content" stuff, the basic version will more than likely do the job. I have been using it since ver 9 (don't know date but probably 10 years). Have edited hundreds of grandkids sports videos. Avid bought out Pinnacle about a year ago.

I seem to remember getting it two Christmases ago for about 75. He upgraded to something in the $500 range, but used Vegas for about a year.

I have Adobe premiere and Cyberlink Power Director. My preference is the Adobe Premier Elements but Cyberlink PD has some “learning curve” to it. I would say WIN XP is like Premier and Win 7 is Cyberlink. Either way, it’s a win win.

Sony Vegas has a 30day free trial. v10.0e and 100% functional.

It’s pretty straight forward, it’ll you get moving fairly quickly. And best of all it’ll give 30 days to asses your needs better.

(I work with both suites, adobe and sony)

Have you looked at the Video Editing Software that came with your computer?

You might already have it on your computer.

Link to prices and options:

The cheaper versions are basically the higher end programs with fewer features.

Have used Vegas for around 9 years and have been very happy with it.

I highly recommend Pinnacle Studio plus. It is versatile and has a lot of great features that make you look like an Academy Award winning film editor.

I’ve been using it for a couple of years and have had excellent results. I don’t recall exactly what I paid for it but I believe it might be in the range you are looking to spend.

Should clarify too that you need two pieces of software:

1. Video editor with a renderer.

2. DVD authoring software.

The video editor allows you to create titles, combine audio, splice scenes, etc. The DVD authoring software creates the screens and thumbnails along with the proper format for a DVD and burns the DVD.
