Where's the evidenece of vein pathology?

I'm not sure if you're questioning the veracity of certain people or if you've forgotten the CCSVI threads.

Here is the argument as I recall it:

This is the technique of one Dr. Zamboni. His wife has MS so he reviewed about a century's worth of literature on the subject and claims his wife's MS symptoms went away after clearing her brain drain veins.

Zamboni revives a theory that a build-up of iron causes MS. He believes the iron build-up is due to the clogged veins.

I do not care if the the iron theory is correct but only if the procedure helps the MS sufferers.

CCSVI means chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency. I'm willing to learn, but this hypothesis seems dubious. IIRC, this doc was on CBS' 60 Minutes.

Veins are a low pressure system with one way valves to assist the return of blood to the heart. You get venous insufficiency in the leg when the saphenous vein is harvested for coronary artery bypass grafting, and when the valves in veins are damaged after intravenous procedures lead to thrombophlebitis. Varicose veins are evidence of venous insufficiency. Those veins are dilated, not blocked. Somehow, those one way valves became incompetent.

I'm not aware of any significant atherosclerotic lesions in veins, just arteries.

Zamboni revives a theory that a build-up of iron causes MS. He believes the iron build-up is due to the clogged veins.

If that were true, then I would expect a correlation with the iron storage disease called hemochromatosis.

Any corrections are always appreciated.
