If I didn’t live so far away, and it wasn’t in the middle of summer, and if my income didn’t depend on my working every day(i.e., contract employee), I’d gladly serve on the panel. I believe in the jury system; to paraphrase someone(Franklin?): it’s the worst system out there except for all the other ones.
I just resent the fact that I’m being asked to practically put my life on hold for 3 entire weeks for something I didn’t volunteer for(like the armed forces).
Bah; that last sentence should read “UNlike the armed forces.”
Yeah, about that - I did four years in the volunteer army.
Then I did a fifth year entirely involuntarily. Stop-lossed - there were only two of us with the required
skills in the Army.
So I put my life on hold for a year ... and went to college the next year.
Sadly, I am now on the draft board - and I have no sympathy.
Get on the bus, private.
Or, following the discussion this morning of the medic, get on the bus, private nedic.
I actually cried when I read of what he did - That medic was one heck of a paratrooper, and should be honoured.
For all that he was a CO.
