Yeah, about that - I did four years in the volunteer army.

Then I did a fifth year entirely involuntarily. Stop-lossed - there were only two of us with the required
skills in the Army.

So I put my life on hold for a year ... and went to college the next year.

Sadly, I am now on the draft board - and I have no sympathy.

Get on the bus, private.

Or, following the discussion this morning of the medic, get on the bus, private nedic.

I actually cried when I read of what he did - That medic was one heck of a paratrooper, and should be honoured.

For all that he was a CO.

Just received my first Jury Summons ever. Could opt out simply because of my age but the Judge and the District Clerk are both someone I campaigned heavily for in the last election and was so glad they were elected. Ironic??

I think I can answer your question. Last month I received a similar federal jury duty notic. On my first call-in I was told to call back the following Monday. When I called the second time, I was told to report to the Los Angeles federal court house. The judge asked several questions to the pool as a whole. The lawyers did nothing but take notes. Then judge and lawyers huddled. 12+2 were seated and then some of those were dismissed by the judge. Those dismissed were replace from the general pool and then the judge told all the remaining pool to report back to the jury clerk. When I (one of those who were not seated) reported to the clerk, I was told my jury service was completed and I need not call in again.

Years back I sat in Federal Court in downtown Detroit. It was for a month. Depends on what is being tried at the time. I was told to call the court the night before and they would give the numbers of the one's that had to show up the next day....I actually only had to go to the court house about 1/2 of the month....I was voi dered sp/ questioned on 3 different trials. Didn't have to sit jury on any. They didn't like my answers to questions the lawyers asked....

Nurses are not prone to being swayed by emotions and my father was a retired cop...defense lawyers didn't like that. The nursing office said nurses that had to sit were never put on juries in their experience.... Federal court is hard to get out of. Other courts you have a chance of being excused...

Navyblue, I’m hoping for a similar experience. Thanks(to everyone) for the feedback. Very helpful.
