I, for one, will be glued to my TV or working the heck out of the recorder.
He would be thrilled that they are giving him a weekend tribute!

TCM aired “Them!” last night. A classic.

Last night on AMC they had on Battleground where he had a small part followed by THEM! in which he had a large role. Of course James Whitmore had larger role in the first and equally large in the second.

The Gunsmoke movies (made after the Gunsmoke TV series ended) air fairly frequently on Encore Westerns. They pick up with Matt Dillon as having retired to ranching, and has a daughter. Fairly well-made movies.

Arness was pitch perfect in Gun Smoke...I catch it on, I think the TV Land channel every once in a while...What a MAN. I loved the relationship he had with Kitty...very complex for the early 60’s IMHO. Sigh...who do we have in film or TV to compare? I guess Clint Eastwood, but he isn't a big guy...which added to the appeal of Arness. What younger actor can compare? Brad Pitt?!!! George Clooney?!!! Like the song “Where Did All the Cowyboys Go?”.
At least we have re-runs. My favs are Gun Smoke, Bonanza and the Andy Griffith show. All these shows had a very strong message which is good for kids to have drilled into their little heads. What kind of message do kids get on tv or films today? Pretty sad. Oh, and Green Acres, too. That was a hoot and still very funny even now.
