Movies that will be shown:
Sprinkled among the episodes of "Gunsmoke" are some movies that James Arness made. Some he starred in, and some, like "Too Many Rivers to Cross", he had roles that gave credence to why he is such a western legend. The following movies will be shown during Encore Western Channel's tribute to James Arness.
Wyoming Mail
Too Many Rivers to Cross (with Robert Taylor and Eleanor Parker) Gunsmoke: Return to Dodge
Gunsmoke: The Last Apache
Gunsmoke: To the Last Man

BTW, it was Vera Cruz where Burt Lancaster drew, fired, (got hit), twirled and reholstered his gun, and only then slowly sagged to the ground. My mistake.
What I liked about the late ‘50’s TV westerns were the variety of guns. For example,
Lucas McCain’s semi-automatic Winchester.
Paladin’s backup double derringer.
Johnny Ringo’s LeMat revolver with the surprise shotgun barrel.
Steve McQueen’s `mare’s leg’ sawed off Winchester which had the BATF shadowing the production set.
Johnny Yuma’s shotgun pistol.
Yancy Derringer who wore an entire collection of concealed derringers. His sidekick Pahoo carried a sawed-off shotgun under his blanket.
Bat Masterson’s snub-nose Colt .45.
And everyone else’s Colt six-shooter which fired up to eighteen shots without reloading.
Will check out the opening scenes vid. Thanks.
Battleground is one of my all time favorite movies....
I think the only movie they made together was "Island In The Sky." I don't think they were in any scenes together. I recall that Arness played one of the search pilots.

Ha! I know that one! The day I first came home from the hospital after being born, it was “I Love Lucy” night. While I slept in my bassinet, the crowd that came over was watching the Ricardos paint and paper the Mertz’s apartment. Lucy opened some upholstery just as Fred turned on the fan to dry the paint on the walls. You guessed it: Feathered walls!
“Upstaged” by Lucy, I was, but that’s okay. I love Lucy, too, but my heart will always belong to Gunsmoke and it’s wonderful, remarkable cast. How I love them! I watch it every night.
I remember that one! The feathered walls.
