COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Asia Vanderwege said she never saw the signs that said "No Soliciting" and "Beware of the Dog." The 14-year-old was attacked by two dogs on Thursday when she went to a home selling candy. "I rang the doorbell and heard dogs barking," said Vanderwege. "I stepped back a little bit and then they burst through the screen door and came at me. Then they were biting me." The bite on Vanderwege's wrist has healed, but she said she has a deeper gash on her hamstring.
The American bulldog and boxer mix have been taken to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, and could be euthanized if the owner doesn't pay a $1,200 bonding fee in the next week. Both dogs have a history of biting people. Vanderwege said she was selling candy with other teens who are part of a summer program called Rocky Mountain Teens. The kids go door to door selling candy, and top sellers get to go on trips. Vanderwege said participants sell alone or in pairs. KRDO Newschannel13 talked to Vanderwege Tuesday as she and several other teen girls were on their way to sell. The leader of the group avoided our camera and told the girls by phone that she didn't want to talk to us. Vanderwege's grandmother, her legal guardian, said that she's checked into the program, and that it's a good way for teens to earn money and stay out of trouble. Vandewege said she doesn't take responsibility for what happened. She said she regularly goes to doors with No Soliciting signs, and some times, those people buy.

Yep. As they say...Life is hard, and it’s harder when you’re stupid.
The owner will be lucky an attorney does not sue him. You cannot boobytrap your property. Even with warnings. With dogs that out of control he is grossly negligent for not keeping them locked inside. Sure if someone breaks into his house that is one thing, but walk up the front path to the door? The mailman will be next.
These people should have had a stronger door than just ‘screen’, since their dogs had bit before. Someone could have come to their door for help and had the same thing happen.
Thanks for pinging Joe. Drudge has a new headline;
‘Dangerous Dog Registry’ Created, All Pit Bulls, Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds Must Register”...
I’m sure the owner will get sued, and no doubt the dogs will be put down. All because some stupid twit ignored the warnings and went where she wasn’t wanted. So it goes.
After asking some Jehovah’s Witnesses three time not to knock on my door, opening the door full wide, standing there naked I invited them in. They politely refused and never knocked again. The guy didn’t even offer me the handout pamphlet!
>>> Why they have a fenced yard the the girl entered without permission and they are just protecting the owners propoerty.
Scratching head - I just reread the article again to make sure. You got a different source? I see nothing about a fenced yard, just the dogs bursting through a screen door.
In passing the signage to knock, she did cause offense. But she did not breach a barrier that allowed for physical contact. The dogs did.
Some adult [door-to-door salesman, Jehovah’s Witness, whatever] ignores my signs to knock anyway, I get to come to the door in nothin but a bloody apron and a knife and cut loose with all the offensive language I wanna, but the law still doesn’t allow me to hit them. Or to sic the dogs on them. Though I can’t say I’ve never grinned like a pie-eyed moron and {whoopsie!} let the dogs out to pick runs in their pantyhose.
The day 2 motorcyclists managed to smash themselves into the ditch beyond my driveway, a passerby who stopped to render assistance sent his son to knock on my door to call 911. The exact address was seen by the dispatcher (not that speed of service mattered much for those poor buggers). Should the good Samaritan have been rewarded by having my dogs bust out the door to chew his son’s arms off?
Getting back to the present situation... In the case that the girl unlatched the gate to a fence that otherwise kept the dogs contained as intended: As you were! (Meaning I stand corrected.)
Video showed the fence in the front yard.
Ah. Dialup.
Kid’s fault then.
One of my neighbors has a nasty little Chihuahua more vicious than any so-called “aggressive” breed.
I understand what you say - I have a Yorkie, but the difference in injury is the size of the animal. My son in law had a Doberman that they raised from pup, when my grandaughter was two the Doberman nipped her on the face twice, just missing her eye.
They had it put down.
