The available evidence is that we live on a seismically active planet and that powerful earthquakes can happen pretty much anywhere on the planet but more frequently in places where tectonic plates abut each other. With that in mind the recent 9.0 earthquakes along the Ring of Fire have been powerful but for seismologists they were hardly unexpected.
I did read one fellow who said that the order of pattern of serious quakes in the Ring of Fire tends to be Indonesia, South America, Asia, North America. He’d cited past quake cycles and says the next quake of serious (8.0+) magnitude to be expected *soon* will be on the Cascadia subduction zone off of Washington & Oregon.
With that in mind I’m not planning on any trips to Aberdeen, Washington which is where a potential 150 foot tsunami could occur at the choke point of the bay between Aberdeen and Cosmopolis. If you look at the shape of that bay you can see that it will funnel a tsunami into a relatively small chokepoint. It’s probably the most dangerous place to live in all of the USA right now.
What’s with this problem of getting to the posting window???
I agree Megan, about the PNW.
I have lots of loved ones in the area. A lot of FREEPERS are there.
