One thing to be aware of with the Mossberg regarding the use of pistol grips is that the slide release is to the left and slightly behind the trigger guard. The pistol grip will make it awkward to depress the button unless you are shooting left-handed. And in addition, the 500 has a tang safety. With a pistol grip installed, you can't reach the safety when your hands are in shooting position. No good.
Do NOT install the pistol grip.

I have the 590A1 which is the tactical version of the 500. Parkerized, ghost ring sights, holds 9 in the gun and 4 in the stock.
The slide is kinda rough but works well enough. My 13 yr old handles it fine at the range. I had someone at the range tell me to install the pistol grips. I might do a folding stock but not a pistol grip.
