So you want to bid at a site, or create an auction site?

http://extensions.joomla.org/search?q=auction
that is a link that could be useful to you. It seems like you want to build an auction website, and I think there might be a little more than a code for a button that you’d need.

"I don't want to bother with Ebay and do this myself and not let Ebay cheat me out of a profit."

I'm computer illiterate, but I can help with grammar.

The way you typed it out it sounds like you're saying, "I don't want to bother doing this myself." Just reverse ''Ebay'' and ''do this myself'' if you have trouble seeing what I mean.

Also sounds like you "Don't want to bother letting Ebay not make a profit off me."

For overall better readability, you could have said, "What is the code for making a bid button? I would like to do this myself without having Ebay involved and swiping my profit."

(snicker) My bud just told me this afternoon that a German customer wanted to buy from his Ebay account but his Paypal account could not “match up” with his Ebay account so he could not check out properly, including the shipping.

So he contacted the customer NOT on the Ebay messaging service (via his real e-mail address) and the customer understood. Just went thru my buddy’s Paypal account without Ebay’s involvement and got paid. He shipped out the item for the weekend.

Why not use Craig’s list to sell your item?

Sir,
You take the item on consignment and sell it. You deliver the funds to him minus whatever commission and fees you have. Depending on the item the commission rate might be 5% to 20% on the final price.
If you list the item on ebay figure out the fees involved and go from there. If the items are big ticket items you might offer a flat 10% commission after the fees.
Feel free to ask me anything you like. I have a good deal experience with these types of sales.

put it on Craigs list. It's free. I just sold a bunch of tools there and never cost me a cent.

You could go to an eBay auction and get the source code on the item page. If you are decent at HTML it should be a snap to find the right code and replicate it to the site you are building. Firefox makes it easy by using View>>Page Source...or highlight the desired area and right click. Then choose “View Selection Source” from the context menu.
