When originally posted, it was posted in News.
Its a sad day when you liberal rinos are allowed to attack and alinsky folks here on FR.
Pointing out that Facebook isn't news is definitely subversive.
Yeesh, leave a thread for a few hours and come back to such a mess!
Anyway, two things:
1) Maybe I’m just a rookie at posting, but when you go to the post link, it says “News/Activism,” not simply “News.” So, as DHY2K points out, my aim is primarily email activism, so how do I post for an activism request that is not in any sense news? I dunno. Did I miss a later choice between news and activism in the interface?
2) FB can be a source of news. Not often. But it can happen. Palin getting over the 3,000,000 likes mark. And if someone has an activism idea and the first place it shows up is in Facebook, and the result of the activism becomes socially/politically significant, why would it not be proper journalism to point back to the source, in this case Facebook?
3) When Facebook was just getting started, I didn’t take it seriously either. But it is becoming the new public walkway, with all manner of activity and buzz that can morph into real events, real news. Palin gets it and shes actively using it. It’s a synthesis of technology and social behavior that will continue to change the way things happen. I see no reason to put it in some special category where whatever happens there is of no account. To paraphrase the Pharisees, does anything good ever come out of Facebook? I say yes.
Nevertheless, my humblest apologies to the offended overlords of FR posting etiquette. I will try to do better next time, if I can figure out the interface. Seriously. No sarc tag even. Cmon, Im series.
