A car that will look mighty familiar to car buffs, movie-goers and Steve McQueen fans is the 2011 raffle car for the International Motor Racing Research Center.
Its a 1967 Mustang, one-of-a-kind resto-mod built as a tribute to the famous Ford Highland Green Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 blockbuster movie Bullitt.
The car is fitted with contemporary features such as four-wheel disc brakes, five-speed transmission, fully independent suspension and many other modern components that make it a truly exciting automobile that a lucky Research Center supporter will win.
The Bullitt Mustang is valued at $72,500.
We are really excited about this years raffle car as it gives people a once-in-a lifetime chance to win an incredible automobile while supporting the Center at the same time, Research Center President J.C. Argetsinger said.
We are certain that tickets for this years raffle will sell out quickly, and I encourage our supporters to purchase their tickets early, Director of Marketing and Development Jon McKnight said.
Tickets go on sale June 3rd, and only 2,500 will be sold. The drawing for the winning ticket will be Dec. 3 at noon at the Center. The prices are $60 each or two for $100.
I expect that tickets will be gone by Vintage Grand Prix weekend in September, McKnight said.
The winner need not be present to win, and McKnight reminds ticket purchasers that the winner is responsible for all taxes and fees associated with winning the car as well as transportation from Watkins Glen.
Tickets may be purchased at the Racing Research Center or on-line at www.racingarchives.org.

Pérez ruled out of Monaco race
Sauber has stated that Sergio Pérez will definitely not be starting tomorrow's 78-lap Monaco Grand Prix, confirming a widely expected outcome after the Mexican's violent crash at the Nouvelle Chicane this afternoon. The Hinwil-based squad also explained that the cause of the accident is still being investigated, but Technical Director James Key believes Pérez will be able to shed more light on the situation shortly.
"Of course we are very relieved that Sergio wasnt seriously injured," Team Principal Peter Sauber commented. "Up to the accident he was doing very well in qualifying, and also better than expected as he had outperformed all his direct competitors. For Kamui it didnt go too well in qualifying, but we know what his skills are and expect them to play a role in tomorrows race."
Key added: "First and foremost we are obviously relieved with the reports that Sergio is okay. Its always very worrying for a team when you see an accident of that magnitude, so its good to hear that he is fundamentally okay. We are looking into what happened. There is no indication at the moment from the data we have seen that there was a problem with the car. But we have to talk to Sergio to investigate further what happened."
Sauber confirms: No serious injures for Pérez
In a press release entitled Good News!, the Sauber team has confirmed that Sergio Pérez has sustained no serious injures after his heavy crash in Monaco Grand Prix qualifying. The 21-year-old Mexican, who lost control at the Nouvelle Chicane for a currently unknown reason, has been submitted to the Princess Grace Hospital after suffering concussion and a sprained thigh.
The full statement from Sauber reads as follows:
It was with great relief the Sauber F1 Team received the news that Sergio Pérez has no serious injuries after his heavy accident in the closing minutes of the final part of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Shortly before 15:00 hrs he had crashed into the barrier after the fast tunnel section of the circuit.
The 21-year-old Mexican was taken to the Hospital Princess Grace in Monaco from where the team received further information at 16:25 hrs: The doctors said Pérez had suffered concussion and a sprained thigh, but no broken bones and, following a scan, they could find no further injuries.
The reason for the accident will be investigated and the team will update the media as soon as it has any further information.
Formula 1 governing body the FIA has released an official communiqué which explains that Sergio Pérez will stay in hospital overnight on Saturday. The Mexican, who crashed heavily at the chicane in qualifying, has no broken bones but did suffer from concussion and a sprained thigh.
The brief FIA statement reads as follows:
It has been confirmed that Sauber F1 Team driver Sergio Perez is stable, conscious and talking. He is still currently undergoing tests at Princesse Grace hospital. According to doctors he has suffered a concussion but has not sustained any fractures. His condition is currently reported as encouraging. He will remain in hospital overnight.

Where do you get that from? Average speed is above 160 km/h / 100 mph. Look at the lap times, do the math. At a race length of 260 km it is easily finished within the two hour limit. Unless it's a wet race (with safety car phases etc.) but those reach the time limit on many if not most other tracks as well. Monaco being right on the sea may be more prone to have some showers coming down, of course.
And "soooo sloooow" is a relative term when you look at the cramped track conditions. When they scream out of the tunnel and rip through the following chicanes along the harbor, the visual impression makes it actually *look* a lot faster than a wide open high speed course. IMHO. YMMV. I found today's race very entertaining.
Please! No more photos with Briatore in them. Ever!
