Arnica Montana may be able to help. Trying Tanac, Max strength Orajel or Anbesol just to see if it can work into the source of the pain may be worth a try. Perhaps a couple tylenol rapid release gelcaps if the pain has a central nervous system component. Sensodyne pain relief toothpaste may help dull some nerve endings. Hot peppermint tea has given some people relief. Some have combined the orajel/anbesol with 2 crushed up aleve pills and placing that mix onto the affected area.
Finally make sure it’s actually tooth pain and not pain from infection or some neuroligical problem.

Since I don’t trust lawyers (they go to graduate school to learn how to lie professionally), it makes me wonder whether you’re trolling for excuses to use on his behalf in a suit for pain and suffering, eh? Just saying...

Tegretol was the only thing that worked for me. Once I found the right dosage, which took about 8 weeks, it was miraculous in relieving the pain and allowing me to lead a normal life.
The Facial Pain Association is a good place to find info and care providers in your area.
It doesn’t happen to everyone, but neurontin can cause suicidal thoughts. Younger adults who take neurotin must be monitored carefully because they tend to be more prone to acting on these thoughts. TNA is called the suicide disease for a reason, and treating neurotin with TNA is getting a double whammy for suicide. Neurotin can work, but the patient needs to be aware of this side effect and rationalize what they might experience while on the drug.

Had two teeth with roots in the sinus. It went pretty bad suddenly. Removing the teeth fixed things just fine.
The author says they have been thru standard doctors and dentists. So I assume they have taken an xray. The roots in the sinuses was pretty obvious in my xrays. So I doubt it’s that.
Actually a mandibular block should work (temporarily), but it has to be placed much higher using a longer needle and the correct approach to reach the root of the nerve. Get a new dentist if the current one doesn’t know the correct procedure. There are a few dentists with expertise in TNA, but not very many. Your friend needs to be under the care of a board-certified neurologist, preferably one with facial pain experience.
It will sting really bad for a few minutes.
Jut dig a q-tip and hold it on the gum and tooth.
The users tongue will even get a burning sensation from it... you wan use a few drops in water but that is less effective.
A few minutes and the pain will go away.
It has amazing antibacterial properties too.

Stings pretty severely when first applied and within a few minutes the sting and pain goes away.

I had all my lower teeth pulled and the phantom pain is still there. Mine is not excruciating, however. My oral surgeon explained that sometimes ends of nerves get caught in heald incisions. He told me that if it was bad enough, the only real cure was opening things up again and hoping to kill or free the nerve. I wish your friend the best.
Hot drinks can sometimes soothe things. Oddly enough, and this will sound counterintuitive, hanging with my head off the edge of the bed has been known to give temporary relief. My father swore by bourbon, but he also was an alcoholic.
Just my opine, but, go to a neurologist and get an MRI of the affected area done for a thorough evaluation.

To some who may not know, Howie _____, QRS 1971, SHS 1975 passed away on July 31, 2011.
I spoke with Norman ____, probably my closest friend through the years and who lived across the street from Howie. Norman provided much support and comfort in the last days.
In grade school, I often played in a toy log cabin his parents erected in his back yard on Meadow Road, and I played with his dog, Marvin.
Over the years of high school and college, I knew Howie well. We both enjoyed many a “guess the lyrics” contest involving our mutual near-favorite musician, Neil Young. He had me over for dinner in Nashville while I was considering Vanderbilt Law School where he was an undergraduate.
Howie had a big heart and meant and did well for everyone. His loss saddens us all.
