Obama had zero name recognition when the primaries began, too. Don't discount Cain for that. He does, however, have other serious deficiencies as a candidate (cancers, zero political experience except for a defeat in a primary, absolutist on abortion, etc). Name recognition goes away really fast once you're running for President. Nobody knew that attractive and energizing woman from Alaska before McCain picked her for the VP slot. August 29, 2008, ABC News headline story was entitled, "Sarah Who?" My, how that changes quickly.

1. Obama had the entire force of the media with him. Once he announced, he got their full support and attention.
Cain has announced and still no attention

Nobody knew that attractive and energizing woman from Alaska before McCain picked her for the VP slot.

2. You just made my case for me...Palin was picked for the VP slot to an already well known candidate.
There is no comparision to these situations. Apples and oranges.
