is your wifi on in system settings?

You’re already talking over my head. I’m not computer illiterate, but I’ve always connected direct to the internet and never set up a wifi. The instructions say to plug the router into your modem and then run the setup utility. I can’t even get to that point, the light never turns green, it just blinks amber, which the documentation says means it isn’t getting a signal from the modem, and when I run the utility, it doesn’t “see” the router.

I’ve tried it on two different computers, with two different modems, on two different DSL lines. I assume it’s either a bad router or there’s some setting I need to change. If the latter, I don’t know what it is or how to go about finding it. I’m supposed to call Applecare when I get home from work. I guess I’ll figure it out eventually...But I bought an Apple product so I wouldn’t HAVE to go through this rigamarole.

Note, I’m not a hater. I bought an Apple product. I want to like it. But so far it’s not living up to expectations.
