The motives behind Glenn Becks recent trip to Israel now make more sense with his announcement Monday morning that he will be holding a major rally in Israel this summer.
I believe Ive been asked to stand in Jerusalem, Beck told his audience recounting a list of times in history when people and nations failed to stand with the Jewish people. Beck explained, as he has often in the last year, how the life and thinking of the German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer has influenced him: He asked people to stand for the Jewish people. He told of Bonhoeffers call for pastors to stand with him. Only six did.
Beck detailed current challenges facing the nation Things in Israel are going to get bad its only a matter of time.
They are going to attack the center of our faith, our common faith, and that is Jerusalem. And it wont be with bullets or bombs. It will be with a two-state solution that cuts off Jerusalem, the old city, to the rest of the world.
It is time to return inside the walls that surround Jerusalem and stand with people of all faiths all around the world.
The event will unfold under the designation Restoring Courage, with a clear intention that it serve as a step forward from last summers Restoring Honor rally held on 8/28 in Washington, D.C.
Beck explained that final dates and details are still coming together. He expects that there will be a full week of activities in Israel. There will also be ways for people to participate from here in the United States.
As full details become available they will be posted on Becks e-mail newsletter.
Beck explained that a trip like this will be really expensive for anyone wanting to participate. He said his team has been working on putting together packages that will make the trip as affordable as possible for as many as possible.
I dont know how many people will come, he said, But if we can gather seven then well have one more than Dietrich Bonhoeffer did.
He is not 'alone', he is a late comer to this party
The FACT that Glenn Beck undertands the meaning of Jerusalem to Christians and the BIBLICAL meaning of Jerusalem to Jews worldwide is not bogus.
Beck is mixing mormon (BTW not Christian) apocalysm with his popularism. Look behind his "biblical" meanings Mesta - you'll find Joseph Smith and mormon prophets re-writing definitions.
The FACT that Glenn Beck is willing to put his body where his mouth is is NOT bogus nor is it without personal danger to himself.
I didn't know he was going to Gaza. Thousands go to Jerusalem daily - didn't think the security in Jerusalem was that bad.
Thank you, Glenn Beck.
And you MM are delusional if you think what Beck is doing here is not connected to his mormonism.
bttt
I am a Christian, saved by Christ 4.5 years ago, well aware of what could be considered off-kilter views by Mormons of Jesus and other things, but there has to be a time to say enough is enough. Glenn is obviously being called to do something extraordinary, beyond what many of you Beck Haters would even fathom in your paltry lives. God Bless Glenn Beck
Also, The boat flotilla with Bill Ayers is suppose to happen in June and Iran is fueling hatred in the middle east towards Israel. Gutsy move by Glenn. Hopefully, he'll get more people involved to support Israel publicly and put pressure on the UN to leave Israel alone.
Ok, so saying that Beck is motivated to do what he is doing because of that mormonism is hate? He is being motivated to do something and he IS motivated by his mormonism.
Truth be told, EVERYODY who claims Jerusalem has it wrong on so many levels I cannot possibly count the ways. Except for the Jews, no one else on earth has a historical right to Jerusalem and they never did, but that doesn’t stop THEM from claiming it either. So let’s not go there. Jerusalem MUST remain an undivided city. That is all I care about. How it stays that way is not up to me. It is up to G-d. And if Beck wants to help see that it REMAINS whole, then I welcome him, and you, and anyone who understands this, even if it is for their own reasons and not mine, that Jerusalem cannot be divided. EVER.
I DON’T CARE if it is connected to his “Mormonism.” I CARE about Jerusalem. JERUSALEM.
Thank you Mr. Beck.
As a non-denominational Christian, when I look at the Mormon faith, I feel...Just a little envy.
While I reject the theology of the Latter Day Saints, I believe Mormons are generally sincere, hard-working, honest, God-fearing people with good and faithful hearts.
When I look at how their church comes together to support a family wounded by an unexpected death, or lost job, I find my own church wanting. Individuals will help out and sometimes even the church will temporarily, but Mormons have this down to an science, and while you can argue it’s just a form of religious socialism, that’s ultimately what most Conservatives preach - Self reliance with welfare being at the discretion of the LOCAL community and not the fedaral government.
As a Christian, I think it’s important for me to understand and internalize that God is not constrained by how *I* think He should behave, or *who* He chooses as an ambassador, and regardless of one’s aversion to Mormon theology, when Beck invokes faith it’s generally inclusive of all denominations, and the things we have in common rather than a sales pitch for his personal church.
If God used Saul (later Paul) who eventually became among the most prolific of disciples, I have faith he can use Beck or even Hugo Chavez if He chose to.
Hum? Then why are you having a hissy fit when someone states that it does have to do with his mormonism?
Its quite possible that you are correct, however I've not seen Mormons willing to put themselves in harms way, especially like this. This is dangerous without a doubt.
Beck may also be driven to make a stand to support Israel. He's been reading books on the Holocaust, how Islam is working to destroy Israel. Maybe he feels he's being called to publicly make a stand in support of Israel?
I have to say, this is one of the first times that I've seen a person pay more than lip service when they say they support Israel. I may be wrong but I can't think of any other person to do something like this.
Are you even partially aware of the number of countries and regions that American Mormons perform missionary work in, and how many of those are considered dangerous for Westerners to travel through?
I'm concerned about the ongoing strategy out of SLCity to try to graft the historical persecution of Jewish populations onto the Mormon Church, to create a bond of common suffering, and the really advanced agitprop campaign that the highest levels of the Church are conducting now to push forward this new meme.
I'm also concerned about the hundreds of thousands of Israelis who had their deceased relatives posthumously converted to Mormonism... it is the greatest insult possible in the Jewish religious traditions regarding burial rites.
ON top of that, why is Beck doing this alone? He could if his rally plans are kosher, have found a dozen Israeli and Diaspora, and Zionist Christian organizations and leaders to cosponsor this event... instead of building the event then announcing it later, he's announcing it as his event and building it later. The Ego Is Huge.
In general, Mormons are considered a cult in Israel, if they are considered at all. Every Beck rally has his brand of pseudo-religious populism instilled in it, the audience of locals are going to sit there and stare at him if he tries that in Jerusalem, or worse, actively chase him off the stage. He's begging for a violent reaction by ultra-Orthodox. He's begging for an attack by Palis, and Arab Israelis.
He's off his gourd.
Uh uh. That wasn’t why. It was the snide and rude way it was done. Let it be. I am neither Catholic, nor Protestant, nor Baptist, nor Mormon, but I do not, and will not, insult someone else’s beliefs because I don’t personally agree with them. A person is either a good person or a bad person. Doesn’t matter to me what religious affiliation they are. G-d will judge. Not me. And not YOU either.
And before you say well what about islam, that is a whole nother can of worms, so don’t do it.
The antichrist will also make a peace plan to keep Jerusalem undivided also - will you welcome that with open arms too? NOTE: I'm not saying Beck is the antichrist, but I AM saying that he has other motivations that are not God centered. I don't subscribe to the philosophy of the enemy of my enemy is my friend idea - we've been burned enough with that already. God will take care of Jerusalem and doesn't need a Beck to do it for Him.
Good deal. Wish I had the money to attend something like that.
It would be interesting to see such a list, if it exists, since the list I've seen has them in safe countries - following after Christians have already blazed the trail.
