12/27/58 "The Burning Desire Matter" Matter #671 Bob Bailey, Virginia Gregg, Jean Tatum, Lawrence Dobkin (Pat McCracken), Vic Perrin, Paul Dubov, Don Diamond (Mickey Fortina), Frank Gerstle (The Chimp) ; Writer/ Producer/Director - Jack Johnstone ; Announcer - Dan Cubberly ; Expense Account Total - $874.20 ; CBS ; A man, a girl, a gangster. That's right, they all add up to trouble for Dollar. Pat McCracken, Universal Adjustment Bureau, home office Hartford, calls Johnny about a strange phone call he got from Los Angeles who wanted to talk to Johnny, and just said "yeah". Dollar thinks he knows who it is and that Pat can expect some arson cases out west. Johnny calls the number that was left with Pat. Just as he thought - it was Smokey Sullivan. Smokey wants to help Johnny with some cases of arson involving insurance. Dollar heads out to the Los Angeles boarding house where Smokey lives. The landlady, Bertha Fletcher, points Johnny in the right direction. Inside the room, Smokey had been badly beaten up and Johnny frightened the attacker away, probably saving Smokey's life. Smokey says it was "The Chimp", a strong arm guy working for Mickey Fortina. Seven fires have been set by seven different guys involving seven different insurance companies. Fortina is a go-between, taking the orders for the arson jobs and hiring the guys to wield the torches. Johnny gets a hotel room for the injured Smokey to recover. They are visited by an acquaintance of Johnny's, Sergeant Pat Nichols of the police. Dollar goes to 1025 S. Spring, the location of the Fortina Friendly Loan Company using the alias of Theodore Morris, to try to hire Fortina to torch his property. Johnny overhears Fortina and his secretary talking about sending strong arm Husky Costellini, rather than The Chimp, over to the hotel. Johnny figures they are after Smokey. Johnny talks to Mickey but isn't able to get him to admit that he arranges fires. The Chimp shows up and says that he knows that "Ted Morris" is really Johnny Dollar. The cops arrive. A fight ensues. The good guys prevail. Commercial for Winston Cigarettes, Promo for Suspense and "Moonlight Sail". (Multi) (23:16)

9/13/52 "Home Surgery" Program #21 William Conrad (Matt Dillon), Parley Baer (Chester Wesley Proudfoot), John Dehner, Larry Dobkin, Sammie Hill (Tara) ; Writer - John Meston; Director - Norman Macdonnell ; sustained ; CBS ; Matt and Chester are on the prairie trail, returning from a 100 mile trip after a murderer - it was the right name but the wrong man. As they are camped a girl, Tara Hantree, rides by. She says her father is sick. A horse stepped on his leg, now he has a fever. Matt goes to see Mr. Noah Hantree. He has gangrene, and he won't last long. Doc Adams is in St. Louis. A ranch hand, Ben Walling, has taken the Hantree's wagon and disappeared. Ben was sweet on Tara, but she was afraid of him. He was always sneaking around. Mr. Hantree doesn't like Ben. Matt tells Chester that Mr. Hantree's only hope against the blood poisoning is to cut his leg off. Chester tries to talk Matt into doing the surgery. Matt talks to Mr. Hantree and he decides to let Matt do the surgery. Corn liquor is used as the anesthetic. Matt accomplishes the excision. Four hours later Ben returns with the wagon. He offers a lame excuse for why he was gone so long - he lost the horses the first day and has spent all the time since chasing them down. Chester thinks Ben is a no good liar. Matt has seen that Hantree's saddle cinch strap had been cut - so that he would be hurt, and maybe killed, perhaps then giving Ben a free hand with Tara. Mr. Hantree is fading. He asks Marshall Dillon to protect Tara from Ben Walling. Matt promises him that he will take care of Tara. Mr. Hantree dies. Ben comes out with a rifle on Matt and Chester - he had been listening to Matt and Hantree talk. Matt overpowers Ben, and arrests him for murder. They all head back for Dodge. Tara never once looked back. (29:44)

Billy says he needs to get $15 tonight to get a new suit because he can't be wearing "this crummy rag when I see her". Randy talks Billy into coming back to his apartment with him. Billy shows Randy a newspaper article he cut out today about "her", Mrs. Walter Compton. Billy says he has to tell her something. Randy offers to lend Billy the $15. Billy then, in flashback, tells Randy about Edna. She was his girl, but she left him. Billy tells Randy that he'll kill anyone who triesd to stop him from seeing Edna.
