Albany Mayor Jerry Jennings once again stretched his wings of power and vetoed a bill that would have allowed Albany homeowners the privilege to raise and house chickens (and definitely no roosters) in their backyards.
(...)
What I found amusing about Mayor Jennings argument is that he called the proposal a flawed and piecemeal approach to the broader issue of urban agriculture. Of course its a piecemeal approach, you first put the pieces together and then you enjoy a meal after the chickens are mature. What really is the concern here? A fear that residents are going to raise so many chickens that theyll put Price Chopper out of business and then therell be no one left to sponsor the big 4th of July Fireworks extravaganza at the Plaza? Not likely.

So no chickens allowed.
But I bet pit bulls are OK.
it's not the "cockadoodledoo" it's the Cockadoodledoodoo...
And in Asia, urban chickens have been banned in some cities because they spread birdflu.
They have mites just like any other wild bird.
Growing and cooking ping.

That’s the URL to a local gal’s website here in Southwest Washington that is worth a look for anyone who is considering a small or “micro” flock of laying hens. She’s done a great job putting it together and has some outstanding ideas for small coops.
Another excellent resource is “Storey’s Guide to Raising Chickens” by Gail Damerow, which is available on Amazon in paperback. It’s the best primer I’ve found that covers all aspects of raising chickens for eggs and meat.
There is no “right way” to raise chickens at home...they will proliferate almost anywhere under many conditions. Give this site a look in your quest for info on this topic....
You’re welcome. I’m telling you in some of these towns here in NJ where this is going on I’m wondering where in the hell is the health department on this? And I’m not talking about rural NJ, I’m mean in big cities and small towns!
I hear you dear, it’s horrendous. Okay, we’re still some what of a ‘’farm state’’ here in The Garden State but I’m talking about chickens in the middle of a middle-class, suburban town town fer cryin’ out loud! And these Mexicans set it up just the way you said. I’ll never forget going to a job I once had every morning having to pass through a once nice neighborhood of once beautiful old Victorian homes and here’s the damn things all over the place! Roosters, hens, chicks. I’m telling you, I love animals but I more than once ran over the filthy things when I had the chance. Once I did that and I stopped the car as this Mexican was looking at me. I got out of my car and yelled ‘Que, puto’’,ahora que’’( What f**got, now what?’’) He didn’t make a move and I kept on going. Sorry to sound so cruel. I know its not the animals fault but G-damnit this is my country, my home. Not some Third World cesspool.
Kind of metaphor for Mexicans, isn’t? Like the chickens they prefer someone else’s ‘’yard’’ (country).
LOL!!! Now that’s funny!!
Looks like the mods didn't think much about the reply.
Ain’t just Mexicans. Central Americans, too, but it applies to any illegals.
And you know they’re not just eating them. Every now and then there’s a story in the paper here about a ‘cock-fighting’’ ring busted by the cops and the ASPCA. Bloody Third World a-holes and their ‘’culture’’. Torturing small animals. Nice ‘’culture’’ isn’t it.
Sounds like the mod needs to buy him(herself) a sense of humor. If they give me their address, I would gladly send them $20 so they could go buy one of their very own.
I cannot honestly find what could have been offensive about that. Maybe they just don’t like Larry the Cable Guy.
no commments on the Huckster?
I had to feed and water the poultry when I was growing up. Why people bother with the chicken when they can have the egg for probably less than the cost of raising their own chickens amazes me.
“It will probably be a lot tougher to get them after the collapse than beforehand.”
Good point which is why we are planning to be gone to the mountains in the next 60-90 days.
I only had 4 years of Spanish but I think you yelled. “What Whore, what now? The guy probably had no clue of what you were trying to say. LOL!! Still I get your point.
No ‘’ahora’’ means ‘’now’’. “Whore’’ in Spanish is ‘’punta’’.
What’s to say ? He was a terrible Governor, he left the AR GOP in its weakest shape since before Winthrop Rockefeller was elected in ‘66, and he was an open-borders whore for Tyson to keep them in illegal slave labor. He had no business running, let alone thinking about running, for President.
