I don't know if this has anything to do with it but back in the 1940s and 1950s (when the OldPossum was a YoungPossum) when you took a swig of Coke you got a pleasant burning sensation. It's missing today.

To this day, I remember the Coke Machine they had in front with the crank handle and the bottle opener. You got the 6.5 ounce bottles for a dime and they were freezing. You chugged them down and it was the best rush you could get, especially on a hot humid day.
