I know this because I have a very good childhood friend who was born of a French father and an American mother and he therefore had his father’s citizenship. We are both in our 50’s. At 18 he had the choice of remaining French or becoming American. This is a choice offered to kids born of of parents who themselves are of different nationalities where one parent is American.

My friend was born in the US in Boston, but he had his dad’s citizenship prior to being 18 and he formally filed the necessary paperwork to also acquire his American citizenship at 18. That citizenship is of a naturalized type not natural born.

There is no secret that Obama’s school paperwork in Indonesia lists him as an Indonesian citizen which makes sense since his dad adopted him and that autonatically made Obama Indonesian. His last name was not Obama at the time. It was Soetoro. My guess is that he sudddenly changed his last name to Obama to thinly veil his citizenship problem which he probably did not bother to change when he was 18 and even if he had he would not qualify as natural born. That is what this whole birth certificate/citizenship is all about.

Yes, all that you describe makes sense, except if Obama was considered a US citizen at birth, then I think that’s a different case: becoming an Indonesian citizen via adoption I don’t think erases his American citizenship.

I’m not sure if that would still pertain, however, if at age 18 he traveled via Indonesia to claim an Indonesian passport before continuing on to Pakistan.

Yes, The State Department could "suspend" Obama's citizenship to comply with Indonesian laws, if he had one in the first place, or Stan Ann fooled them into thinking Obama really had a US citizenship. If so, Obama had the ability to come back and naturalize as a citizen when he became of age. Did he?

Which comes back to what passports was Obama using when he traveled around the world and to Kenya, Pakistan, et al as an adult? Did Obama attend Occidental college as foreign student? As I recall, Obama spent many months in Indonesia circa 1990 when he was suppose to write his first book. Was Obama living there in Indonesia as a citizen?
