Johnny Depp wants Tonto to boss around the Lone Ranger

Maybe they'll call it "Tonto's Revenge"?

Actor Johnny Depp, who is developing the movie version of “The Lone Ranger” with his “Pirates of the Caribbean” director Gore Verbinski, wants someone other than the guy wearing a white hat calling the shots.

"I remember watching it as a kid, with Jay Silverheels and Clayton Moore, and going: 'Why is the f***ing Lone Ranger telling Tonto what to do?'" Depp told Entertainment Weekly about the durable black & white Western TV series that ran in reruns well through the 70s.

"I liked Tonto, even at that tender age, and knew Tonto was getting the unpleasant end of the stick here.”

Native Americans Upset With Code Name For Bin Laden

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Many Native Americans across the U.S. are upset after discovering the Navy SEALs used the code word "Geronimo" for Osama bin Laden when raiding his compound in Pakistan Sunday. Some Native Americans are even hoping the president will address the issue.

Joseph Geronimo, a descendant of Geronimo who currently lives in Mescalero, N.M., was particularly upset.

"It's a slap in the face of my family. There's no way you can compare Osama bin Laden to my grandfather Geronimo. Those so-called historians -- they twist things around and make him look like a terrorist and make him sound like something that he's not," said Geronimo in a recent interview with KOAT.

Dated jokes; Q) Who killed more Indians than the Lone Ranger?
A) Union Carbide.
“Tonto, we’re surrounded by Indians. It looks like we’re gonna die”.
“Whachu mean WE Kimosabe?”

If a Texas Ranger had a Indian go bad on him, the Ranger would have just shot the Indian.

that reminds me of a japanese prof in college who was born in a ww2 camp in california.

one day in his office i noticed a long list of iiii’s crossed with a diagonal. it went half way down the wall.

what’s that? he replied that it was his bang list of white girls; he was “owed” that because of his parents’ incarceration in california during the war.

The Lone Ranger and Clayton Moore are sacred to me. I visited the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco, Texas just last month. I stood before the Lone Ranger exhibit and gazed upon his mask, white hat, and twin six-gun rig. Depp would have to stand on his mother's shoulders just to kiss Tanto’s rear end.

It’ll be a remake no matter how he plays it. In contemporary Hollywood, the rule for remakes seems to be “how can we turn the original story upside down and work in a few gay, black, Indian or Hispanic female cross-dressing individuals whose only purpose in the story is to push for social justice, universal health care and the extermination of the white race?”

Remake scripts these days remind me of Mad Libs.

Ir’s called shallow thinking. When Kennedy was running for office almost every girl in my all girls school had a Kennedy button - why, you ask, because he was cute. That’s all folks. None of us were politcally savy. To say the least, I was one of the few that was buttonless;)

Reruns ended 2 years before he was born. Liar, liar, pants on fire.

That sounds like Birther logic. For what it's worth, I was born in 1975 and I watched lots of Lone Ranger reruns growing up.

“birther logic”. LOL! Good one. They are a punchline already but, much like a guy with a mullet - not quite aware of it yet!

Which network or station did you see the reruns on? I did some more research and found that the last reruns were in 1964.

I was born in 1962 and distinctly remember watching it on our small kitchen t.v. in the late ‘60s.

I believe it was WGN, Channel 9 in Chicago. :)

I was looking it up and also saw that reruns stopped in ‘61, so I guess individual channels/networks could have replayed them.
