TEMECULA, Calif. – Comedian Andy Dick has been arrested in Southern California for being drunk and disorderly in a restaurant.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department says the 45-year-old comic actor was arrested Monday night at Marie Callender's after reports that he was causing a disturbance in the bar.

A sheriff's statement says Dick appeared to be drunk and was unable to care for his own safety. He was booked for public intoxication and released.

Messages left Tuesday for his attorney weren't immediately returned.

Dick has a history of arrests.

Yes, I'm sure the thought occurred to many of us: What a Dick. Remember this? (I remember Jon Lovitz talking about this on the Howie Carr Show)

Lovitz beats up Andy Dick

Jon Lovitz beat up Andy Dick last week (2007) at the Laugh Factory after Dick made a comment about the murder of Lovitz’ SNL friend, Phil Hartman. Apparently last year Andy Dick went up to Jon Lovitz and, according to Lovitz, “looked at me and said, ‘I put the “Phil Hartman hex” on you – you’re the next one to die.’ I said, ‘What did you say?’ and he repeated it. I wanted to punch his face in, but I don’t hit women.” Then when the two ran into each other at the Laugh Factory last Wednesday, Lovitz was expecting an apology for the comment and when he didn’t get one he flipped out. Page Six reports:

Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada, who witnessed the assault, said, “Jon picked Andy up by the head and smashed him into the bar four or five times, and blood started pouring out of his nose.” Lovitz told Page Six, “All the comedians are glad I did it because this guy is a [bleep]hole.”

This one’s a no-brainer. Andy Dick is the biggest waste of human life since OJ Simpson and Jon Lovitz is awesome. Plus he was in those Subway commercials. Trying to figure out who to root for in this one is like trying to decide between a cute little kitten playing with a ball of yarn and Hitler. (end)

Why does the entertainment press keep calling this Dick a comedian/comic? He’s not the least bit funny... do they do it to convince themselves of something they wish was true????

Exactly...btw when I heard the interview of Lovitz on that show I mentioned, he sounded like a really nice guy; while Andy, from what I hear of him, sure sounds like a Dick.

Just a hunch here, but I suspect this guy has serious anger issues going through life as a dick.

Andy Dick needs to get arrested periodically. It is the only way he gets his name in the public eye. He isn’t funny, so not a comedian. He hasn’t acted since Phil Hartman was killed and the show was cancelled. Can’t sing or dance, so what’s left?

If he did not have a bad attitude in addition to being drunk the cop probably would have taken him to an inebriate reception center instead of jail.

LOVE IT, Lovitz!
Andy Dick is one of a small group of “actors” who are profoundly self-destructive and troubled and manage (for the briefest of times) to make that work for them.
The patron saint of show-biz types like this is of course,
Charlie Sheen, who, sadly, DOES have a little talent.
Jon Lovitz, on the other hand, managed to craft a whole series of unforgettable characters on SNL and the movies:
Tommy Flanagan, congenital liar, remains one of the best things ever on SNL.
Phil Hartman, needless to say, had probably the deepest talent of anyone EVER on SNL, and was a super-straight guy,
but made the mistake of marrying a very unstable woman, and then couldn’t figure a way to get out from under that burden, and then it was too late.

I guess he does some cartoon voices, that’s about it. From Wikipedia:

>>As of October 2006, Dick has hosted his own radio program, The S-— Show, on Howard Stern’s Sirius channel Howard 101 every Thursday night at midnight eastern...In 2010, Dick voiced Jesus Christ in an episode of Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. He also did a voice over in American Dad as himself.

As a bit of background....

Lovitz blames Andy Dick for the events leading to the death of Phil Hartman.

Andy was at a party and ‘twisted the arm’ of Phil Hartman's wife to indulge in cocaine use - she was a former addict and that was the start of the downward spiral that led to her shooting Phil.

Well, it's about time. It's BEEN six months or so, hasn't it?? Dick's only employment is twofold, namely mediocre "celebrity roast" gigs and drunk-and-disorderly arrests.

Hard to imagine a nice sweet gentle voiced guy like Lovitz slamming someone against a bar four or five times until they were bloody..........

Until you know the emotions behind it.

I would have SO loved to have seen that!

And when at a party and encouraging drinking or whatnot use/ keep in mind that you may not be aware of the history behind the polite decline of the opportunity to indulge.

So “don't be a (Andy) Dick” and let people not indulging alone.

Actually the whole story is even worse than this.

Brynn Hartman had been sober for 10 years and then at a party Andy Dick allegedly gave her some cocaine. She got hooked again and started a downward spiral which would ultimately result, 5 months later, in the murder/suicide.

This was pretty well known amongst Phil Hartman’s friends, including Jon Lovitz, who despise Andy Dick. That was the context in which Dick said he was putting the “Phil Hartman hex” on Jon Lovitz, he was mocking the idea that he had set events in motion which led to Phil Hartman’s death.
