Pretty slow acting stuff, it only took ten years to work.
Say! Maybe that’s the ticket, found guilty, injected
immediately and several years later they drop dead.
Gives them time to think about it.

Pentobarbital is the prescription drug Nembutal, once widely used as a sleeping pill and affectionately known as "yellow jackets" by abusers. First formulated in 1928 for human use. Neither new nor an "animal drug." While it is used on animals, so is aspirin. Big whup.

My position on the question of Capital Punishment has changed over the years. In the last several years, I have come to the conclusion that even life with no chance or parole is insufficient. I think capital criminals should be dispatched as a specific deterrent - which is 100% effective. I think they should also be dispatched as a general deterrent - many who would otherwise commit capital crimes will be deterred by the threat of death - if that threat is real and imminent. Needless to say, the decades long appeals process has to be curtailed as well. The families of the victims deserve timely closure. As it is now many of them will be gone before the eventual execution of the criminal, if it ever occurs.
Justice delayed, as they say, is justice denied.

I wondered why they executed criminals with a drug that was difficult to administer and was unpredictable at times. Pentabarbital is a good drug for euthanasia; given slowly it is humane and the animal goes under smoothly. I always use ten percent more than the lethal dose because I don’t wish to be on the news for failing to euthanize an animal.

Just put my 13 year-old American Bulldog down. If sodium pentobarbital is good enough for Buddy, it’s sure as hell good enough for these guys. Works in about 15 to 20 seconds and is painless.
