Top Shot Finale and Season (total vanity)
TCP | 5-01-2011 | TCP

Anyone want to discuss this season's Top Shot? It just ended on Tuesday. I picked the winner from the first time I saw him and heard his background.

Until the finale, I perceived the contestant George to be a total bleep, but after the finale was over, I changed my opinion somewhat, based on his odd behavior in the finale. I thought it was very interesting the bond he had with the winner of the competition.

I missed a few episodes, so could someone explain why they all picked on Jaime so much? I thought he seemed like a stand up guy.

I am a female NRA member and gun enthusiast. I enjoy the many shooting challenges Top Shot sets up, and the array of weapons they use throughout the season.

I do not own a shotgun yet and the Benelli they used at the end of the season looked very appealing. Anyone have one, or can recommend a great shotgun for a woman? Money not important, I want quality. I might like to take up shooting skeet sometime, and I know there's nothing like a shotgun for home defense too.

Any comments are welcome, and thanks for participating!

I think the problem they had with Jamie was he wouldn’t tell them about his military background while everyone else was open. Later it came out he was a rescue diver but I think people didn’t believe him.

It is a good show.

You know, I had the exact same reaction. I thought George was a complete a-hole, and was ashamed at his behavior since I am former Air Force myself.

But after seeing what he did for Chris at the bar challenge, throwing two shots just so he could advance to the championship, I saw that he could be generous to his friends.

I think Gunny threw the 10/22 stage of the final challenge as well.

Chris must be one helluva guy to have friends do things like that for him.

I am glad he got the 100 grand. He sure needed it and earned it too.

Oh yeah, I remember now hearing a kitchen discussion with the guys and they told Jaime that. They were really mean to him. I was rooting for him to go farther. Ashley was especailly mean to him and I was glad when he was eliminated.

After watching the season recap episode, I got the impression that some in the house thought Jamie was a Navy SEAL and that he never confirmed nor denied it.

I also thought George was a jerk but was touched by his actions in the finale and I was happy that Chris(?) won. The guys seemed to pick on Jaime because he wasn't an infantry-type like the other military guys. He was a rescue swimmer but he didn't seem to talk about it much and the guys taunted him for it. Ashley was a jerk at the end to Jaime, for no reason.

I'm a woman and am fairly new to shooting but I don't know much about shotguns. I've shot mostly hunting rifles. My dad recommended I get a Mossberg 900 series for turkey hunting. But I've given up on turkeys and just hunt deer. I know Benelli is a quality product. I'm sure lots of FReepers will be able to give you great advice.

I enjoyed that show a lot. I believe that the reason they picked on Jaime so much was because he was a Navy Rescue Swimmer. The rest of them were Marines and other combat types. The testosterone level was way up there. They kind of looked down on him and anyone else who had not served in a war zone.
I'd love to know where the Top Shot ranch is located. That place was like Disneyworld to a shooter.

BARF

Guns and Soap Operas do NOT go together....

I got all ready to watch a show about guns and shooting and it was just another phony ‘reality’ show....

who's reality??? no one knows...

I guess if Chris likes George so much, then George can’t be all bad. He sure was full of himself though. I got a kick out of seeing George dread the 125 foot drop from that crane. Being trained to man-up as he was, he certainly took the challenge on well. They guy is just too good looking, and he is not humble about it. Not very appealing to me. He was a jerk most of the season.

I find your comments on Gunny very interesting! I was wondering what the heck his problem was hitting those lined up targets in the final challenge. You might just be right, that he did it on purpose.

I must say, Chris did have the ability to endear himself to people. I liked him right away. Somehow I missed his story of his brain surgery and the loss of his business during that time. They mentioned this in the last shows as you know. I saw the clip of him saying how he loves being a stay at home dad and he loves being able to get his kids off to school and being there when they get off the bus in the afternoon. His humble nature is very admirable. I am very pleased he won.

Remington 870 pump 12 ga, extended magazine tube, 18 1/2 barrel with a Knoxx Specops stock. Buy the comb extension as well.

Disney World for shooters is right.
I was getting all giddy at the challenges they had.
I would never attempt the one they did where they had the guys drop from a 125 foot cable though. No thanks!

Woman to woman, don’t you agree that George being a jerk, totally nullified his good looks and physique? I mean he was off the charts arrogant. He probably has no idea what a turn off it is when a man is so obviously in love with himself! LOL!

Exactly.

Just like last season with Kelly, Jamie should have fired his rounds into the ground. What were they going to do, send him into elimination?

As my friend said, “Too much man whispering in bedrooms and hallways.”

Thanks for the recommendation. I appreciate the details, and will note them for my next trip to the store. Will look forward to the amazed look from my salesman, when a woman asks for such a specific gun and specs!

: )

Or the producers create a ‘conflict’ to spice up the show. If you ask me George and Gunny tanked so the dude could have ‘college money’ for his kids....

Whoever dreamt up those stages was an evil genius! I’d pay good money just to be allowed a run through on their course.

Absolutely! I thought he was quite handsome and his being a sniper...what a guy! But his attitude was a real turn-off. I liked his joke at the end, saying he felt kind of bad that he’d be buying guns every month (if he won)while Chris’ kids weren’t going to college :-)

I'd love to know where the Top Shot ranch is located. That place was like Disneyworld to a shooter.

I did some on-line searching about it and if my source was right it's in the foothills northeast of Valencia, CA. That's fairly close to L.A. for those unfamiliar with the region.

My feelings about the show agree pretty closely with what others are saying. The right man won but I didn't expect him to beat out Gunny. The idea that Gunny threw the game hadn't occurred to me but now I'm wondering. Maybe he and George cooked something up together.
