Off with their hats! It was bigger than the Super Bowl and as tacky as a legion of Elvis impersonators. Most of all, it was disturbingly white. Yesterday's little wedding of William and Kate, a worldwide showcase of dreadful hats, fad diets and an unusually sour, lemon-yellow-clad queen, was designed to prove to the common man that the royals, finally, were down with the people. But from the moment a triumphant Kate tiptoed with her dad onto the red carpet -- yes, she walked an actual red carpet to and from the altar -- I saw not a potential queen. Kate bore the look of a lithe human sacrifice. Or was she ready to faint from her starvation diet? Her mouth smiled. But in her eyes -- terror. Who can blame her? Kate waited eight years for this moment, outlasting an endless parade of bimbos and stunning babes, most of them blond, at least five of them wedding guests (go figure, Brits), to win the hand of the badly balding heir to the throne. "You look beautiful!" William said, sounding a trifle too surprised, as she sailed into his orbit. These had to be the second-most dorky words ever to emerge from the mouth of a prince, after Wills' dad's unfortunate musings on becoming Camilla's feminine hygiene product. Kate did her best to paint on a smile, as the claustrophobically reserved royal mob made asses of themselves, craning their necks to give Kate the once-over, like a hunk of meat. It was showtime! Perhaps it was a bad omen. Or a sign of water retention. But when it came time to be Mr. and Mrs. Or Duke and Duchess. Or whatever the heck this pair will call each other in the

That possibility definitely crossed my mind.
Nice that someone can cast the first stone. By the way, what are YOUR sins?
ok, that is good. But the royalty can certainly raise a stink over failed social policy! If they had some real conservative courage...no?
yes, drawing more money to pay for garbage government...great idea there!
Since you have no idea how that nation is ruled and governed, nor who is in charge, you shouldn't talk about it. And FYI..............the Queen can't speak out nor make suggestions.
The royals stay out of governing, for good reason. They let their charities do their talking.
You need to read up on how economies and governments work. Your income taxes pay for things both good and bad. So does the tourism money attracted by the royal family.
Funny thing caught my eye in Peyser’s bio... she’s married to Mark Phillips. If I’m not mistaken that’s the name of Princess Ann’s first husband (or current for all I know, tho I think she, too, has been divorced).
It’s pretty bad when you write a column and more posts, as here, attack your cattiness than the ‘tacky spectacle.’ I may be the only person on earth who thought the hats were FUN! Over the top, yes, but fun nonetheless. Even Beatrix’s.
(and that served its purpose ... I’ve seen more pix of her and that hat than of Kate!)
Princess Anne is divorced from Mark Phillips and is now married to Vice-Admiral Timothy Laurenece.
I loved some of the hats, but hated the ridiculous/what were they thinking ones. But then, each to his/her own.
1. All whites are evil, except for whites like the writer, who hate themselves and their own race and show how much better they are by pointing out the evil of other whites.
2. Any gathering of mostly whites is automatically evil.
3. Any gathering of mostly nonwhites is wonderful, vibrant diversity.
Really, how long before just being white is against the law? Why don’t they just load us onto the boxcars now and get it over with?
Sure I do know how governments work and England has had much too much of it! And royalty certainly can speak out against socialist policies! God gave them a tongue and no man can take that away...unless they have been cowarded into it. work for charities is a good thing, I am not knocking that obviously!
I'm not telling you to shut up....just that it would behoove you to refrain from posting on matters you neither know anything about, nor understand, which would stop making yourself a poster worthy of correcting and/or derision.
you seem to miss my point...of course the royalty has no say in policy...but they can still be bold and speak out for heaven sakes! Do you know how much wealth has been confiscated by excessive government in England? Good lord! Pure theft, just like our income tax and social policy...very similar. And what about legalized child killing in England? Does royalty speak out boldly against that? Just wondering...
Put simply, so that perhaps you will finally "get it"........
THE QUEEN IS A SYMBOL, A FIGUREHEAD AND THE OTHER ROYALS ARE LESS THAN THAT. THEIR "JOB" IS TO OPEN STUFF ( THE QUEEN OPENS THE PARLIAMENT SEASON ), LAUNCH NEW SHIPS, WORK ON MANY DIFFERENT CHARITIES, AND THAT'S IT.
The royals pay income taxes now, so of course they all know how much that costs everyone.
You really and truly need to just drop this, NOW, because you have become ridiculous, in the extreme.
I don’t need to drop jack! Until I see fit, thank you very much. We are in America here and thank God not England where the royalty has not the courage to speak out on terrible evils of the day! At least it sounds that way. Shame on them! Okay, now I am done.
The reports I heard on tV and in press was that the security was paid for by the taxpayer but all the other costs of the wedding were paid for by both the queen and Middleton families.
So now we see that the White House is not enough for King and Queen 0bama and now they want Buck House too..gads what grifters.LOL
But I guess making an absurd fool of yourself doesn't bother you one whit.
I’ve seen and heard that, as well as some reporting that the Queen was paying for some of the security. It’s been a mixed bag, with some things turning out to be false, or just rumors. So who knows....re the security stuff?
You betcha! I don’t save face, come on now...that is wimpy! I wish strength and courage to the so called royalty because evil is on a massive assault in this world and we need to be on the attack too! With love and honesty..and it would be helpful if the so called royalty would do that!
