...Superman announces that he is going to give up his U.S. citizenship. Despite very literally being an alien immigrant, Superman has long been seen as a patriotic symbol of "truth, justice, and the American way," from his embrace of traditional American ideals to the iconic red and blue of his costume. What it means to stand for the "American way" is an increasingly complicated thing, however, both in the real world and in superhero comics, whose storylines have increasingly seemed to mirror current events and deal with moral and political complexities rather than simple black and white morality.

The storyline begs the question, exactly why does The One pointedly refuse to support pro-democracy protestors in Iran or Syria? Does he prefer countries in which demoncracy (sic) has a better chance of triumphing?

Which, according to libs, makes Superman a racist. Wonder if libs realize he is turning his back on The One?
Comic books are written by libs. I'm sure this was supposed to be a story about how evil Tea Partiers are soiling the good name of Obama around the world.
I'm just pointing out that it could be interpreted many, many ways.
Superman is after all, demonstrating against Iran - something Obama won't do.

He's just angry that the government has been jacking up the property taxes on his Arctic home in Alaska, and now the environmentalists want to shut it down because of the carbon footprint.

I heard that she told the limp-wristed, metro-Supial one that she needed to get away for a while to “find herself”. She was vacationing over at Marvel and ran into this guy named Hulk. The rest is history...
Superman got a “Dear Kal-El” note.

Superman Renounces US Citizenship... To be fair, Clark Kent looked at this years tax returns, and thought, "Man, @#$% Bloomberg and Obama. These guys are like Kryptonite to my economic well being."
Hell, if I could fly, was bulletproof and had a fortress of tax free solitude, I'd be tempted to give the IRS the ultimate slip myself.

What a bunch of globalist PC BULL CRAP!
Whoever came up with this lame-brained storyline should be FIRED!
I am fed up with this ANTI-AMERICAN plot that continues to roll off the printing presses of the UN-American Marxist Left. They cannot even leave our comic books untarnished by their slobbering PC!
Screw all of you traitorous, commie-loving, new-age earth-worshiping rump swabs at D.C. ! You’re as wicked as the pervets now occupying the “other” D.C.!
However, and despite your plans to “re-educate” and “re-program” our children, WE WHO STILL BELIEVE IN THE IDEALS THAT AMERICA TRULY STANDS FOR will fight you every step of the way, even if we all have to die in the effort!
One way or another, WE WILL DEFEAT YOU TREASONOUS BASTARDS!
An awful bloodletting is coming. Woe to those who are on the wrong side of “Truth, Justice, and the American way!” ... Which is to say “Life, Liberty, and Property.”
There will be no quarter given... and none expected.

From a story in 1974:
So now he's a citizen of every country except the United States. Great.
(Of course this was before the Crisis on Infinite Earths, so it's not canon anymore, but still...)
