I thought a little bit about that statement. I would think it more likely people in a registrar’s office would use tabs, but I think you really can’t say “never” or “nobody.” What about the new typist in the office? What about the typewriter where the tab stops don’t work? What about the employee who’s a perfectionist or just bored that day and decides to center everything?

I had forgotten, though, about backspacing every other letter. Thanks for reminding me!

In short, one has to look at a poorly constructed PDF version to see any tampering evidence. Looking at other available versions does not show that evidence.
