First Republic: 1789-1856.
Second Republic: 1857-1913.
Third Republic: 1914-1963.
Fourth Republic: 1964-2008.
The First Anti-Republic: 2009-present.
Western democratic capitalism, for all its flaws, has objectively provided much greater prosperity and much greater freedom for far more people than any other system in history.
Lorre’s response, and that of others like him, is to tear it down because it still has flaws.
This is the rough equivalent of setting fire to the house because it needs cleaning.
The mindset, which is seen in so much of what liberals and radicals think and do, is that good things happen by themselves but bad things only because others impose them. So sweep away the bad things, and if necessary the people imposing them, and everything will be wonderful.
Those of us with half a brain realize that bad things are the default setting of the universe, that order, peace and prosperity do not generate themselves, but exist only because they are created and maintained by people.
