A number of years back I was able to spend about 4 hours viewing the Hagia Sophia. I had a large picture book of the place with me that had pre-Mohammedan rendering of the site compared with it after the Mohammedan conquest.
Frankly, I liked it better as it was originally. There were some outside changes, gardens and water courses added that were nice - but the interior, major changes, changes just destroyed the intent of the building.
A lot of people came over and were very interested in the book. Many had no idea of the Hagia Sophia original meaning.
Constantinople vs Istanbul.....;)

No doubt.
However although I don’t view the buildings as holy, I have a great respect for the unique aesthetic, and architectural language that is unique to Churches. For me in particular the Byzantine and it’s many orthodox revolutions.
This thread is not about theology. Please take that elsewhere. It is about art.
