My son and his wife had their first baby 2 weeks ago. He is named after my son, who is named for his grandfather (my father) and his wife’s father.
My father’s name goes back to the 18th century in my father’s family. Family names still strong choices in the South.
This is true. Unfortunately too many families decide to perpetuate the names Booger, Bubba, and Tater
We had a family tradition—I think this used to be common—of naming a son after the maternal grandfather...first name=first name, last name=middle name.
Grandpa=Robert David Smith
Baby=Robert Smith Jones
Ours went for, at least four generations; but my daughter had no sons.
