If most Brits find a sense of national identity and traditional continuity in the ceremonies, then more power to them. Given the recent influx of none westerners into that country a little tradition is probably a very good thing.

Besides, I'm sick of the iconoclasts in this country who destroy our traditions for no other reason than thats what iconoclasts do.

You’ve put your finger on it exactly. These royal events bring out in droves what’s left of patriotic British “subjects”. That’s a VERY good thing. I think when the Queen goes though, the whole country is going to fall apart. That is: unless Prince William turns out to have all her genes (which I doubt) and kicks his dad to the curb (which I also doubt).

And so many people in this country tear down our traditions because it seems to be the fun thing to do. This has always confused and appalled me. I love tradition. It’s what ties us to our past and future.
