By now, it should be obvious that anyone hoping party insiders will draft a Jeb Bush or Chris Christie or Rick Perry to rescue the lackluster Republican 2012 field from itself is living in a hopeless fantasyland. But in case you need even more evidence, consider this: Dark-horse candidates who arent fully committed to running for president, deep within their bones, have a terrible track record of misfires and flameouts.

Let's hope this won't wind up like 2008 again. It has a good start at doing just that!
If the GOP can’t get it together against such an incompetant ideologue in an economy as anemic as this one then they need to have their credentials as a major national party pulled.
The only thing that needs ‘rescuing’ is our ‘Country’ from this criminal anti-American socialist!
If the country hasn’t already awoken to that fact yet, then it doesn’t matter ‘WHO’ is on the ballot in 2012.
We don’t need one.
We already have a huge white “rhino” with a hair helmet and gigantic balls.
And I, for one, am glad he’s talking right now. Warts and all.
Reading the whole article, reveals some eerily similar scenarios to the way this election is developing. Let’s hope not!
An important point from the article;
[”We need look no further back than 2008 for a vivid historical example. That year, Republicans were in a similar mood, disenchanted for one reason or another with Giuliani, McCain, Romney, Huckabee, and the whole crew.
At that point, the GOPs brilliant backup plan was Draft Fred Thompson. His positive qualities were obvious enough: The former senator and longtime actor had a conservative enough record to be acceptable to activists without being threatening to swing voters; he seemed articulate and reasonably smart; and he was, of course, a celebrity who got to play a gruff, tough, avuncular prosecutor. He was sort of Tim Pawlenty with a growl and gravitas.”]
You can count on the GOP. They will always let you down.
A few of them are starting to wake up, but it’s already too late. This should have started in 2007. And the Free Market should have been left alone to correct itself.
I forgot about fred.....I have a poster of him with his fist balled up and it says...Kill the Terrorists, Protect the Borders, Punch the Hippies......I kinda liked him, if only he would have really tried.....sigh
i do not believe that....I beleive that dems crossing over gave us mcpain...the simplest way to do away with this is to close the primaries
Whatever else you think of him, Colin Powell was absolutely right when he said he wasn’t running for President because he lacked “a fire in the belly”. Gotta have it, IMHO, and God bless the families of those who do.

The Republicans Party does not have anywhere near enough Conservative Politicians. The Voters are Conservative, the Politicians, not enough.
If every Republican Senator was a Tea Party Senator, every Republican Senator would be acceptable to Conservatives.
Now, we scratch our heads. Many of the best known Republican Politicians are just not Conservative enough for us.
You've said some pretty stupid things in your posting history, but this has go to be in the top 10. There was never any plan by the GOP to do draft Thompson. Never. If there was, perhaps your brilliance could show it to us, yes?
Don't let facts get in the way of your deranged musings though.
*sheepish grin*
If Giuliani had been the nominee, and McCain had lost, would you say that crossover votes didn’t take place, that McCains crossover votes weren’t enough.
In 2008, none of the big names were Conservatives.
McCain, Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee - all not Conservative.
McCain was the most famous. It was “his turn”.
And many American voters are Moderate or independent, which means they pick candidates for their hair style, the way they look and dress, or if they have a good speaking voice.
There is also the “Name Recognition” phenomenon. They have no clue what they stand for, they just get voted for because they know the name more than the others.
“anyone hoping party insiders will draft a Jeb Bush or Chris Christie or Rick Perry to rescue the lackluster Republican 2012 field from itself is living in a hopeless fantasyland”
I don’t know about “fantasyland”, but anyone who would pull for any of these three are not committed to electing solid conservative candidates.
Jeb Bush is a Juan McCain/Jorge Bush make-over. Christie passes for a conservative by New Jersey standards, but who is willing to accept those standards outside of the Northeast? Rick Perry is an opportunist who has very little going for him outside of a close run with Romney over who has the thicker head of hair. If a Bush, Christie, or Perry candidacy is as good as the Republicans can do, they deserve yet another defeat.
I clearly pointed out that what you were reading was taken word for word from the article. Those were not my thoughts or words. They are the opinion of the author.
Fred’s greatest quality was that he didn’t seem to lust after the job. We need a President like that.
