So apparently, the US Civil War was as much about US global imperialism as it was about our unbridled racism. This year's commemoration has been more inclusive of Blacks and has actually found some Whites willing to play The North.
I know Ken Burns is a lefty loon, but his doco “The Civil War” is still the standard and much better than anything Radio Berlin could come up with.
Funny to see those middle-age + reenactors out there when the average age of combatants was probably closer to 20 (if that).
Not to mention the rather drastic difference in size. Weight, not so much height.
I was gonna say, not many of those reenactors look like they march 10-15 miles a day, and eat what they can scavenge.
Nope.
I was quite amused by Samwise in the Lord of the Rings movie. Walked a couple thousand miles, starving the last few weeks, and didn’t lose a pound.
